Question about 2017 Cornerstones and Anthems

I watched that video from NIRVC about the 2017 Cornerstone. I like that they moved the batteries from the front left compartment and made it into storage. I think that will really put a big comfort margin on axle loading. My questions are;

1. Where are the batteries now? Any pics?

2. The video said they changed battery types. How do the specs on these 4 batteries compare to the former 8 AGMs. What are these type batteries called?

3. Are they still maintenance free?

4. Are they so inaccessible they'd be hard to replace someday?

IIRC, curbside most rearward bay (where the 12V disconnects are), behind the slanted wall.

L16 AGMs. There are 4, 6V each, 390 AH each. I'm still digging to find the previous house battery specs.

yes - still AGMs

No - see question 1

It looks to me like the new batteries have about 10% less capacity than the old ones did.

That's correct. The original GC2 AGMs were 220 AH each. Eight of them gave you 880 Amp-Hrs at 12 volts. Four L16s at 390 AH each will give you 780 AH. Your 10% figure is real close.

The advantage to the L16s is that they weigh less and take up less room. That lets them be relocated so that you have some additional storage space. Of course, once you load up that storage space any weight savings are now null and void.

The AGM's prior to 2017 were Discover EVGC6A-B and they are 207 AH each for a total of 828 AH so with the new L16's at a total of 780 AH you get 48 AH less in an Anthem and Cornerstone or about 6% less.

With regards to weight the EVGC6A-B each weigh 63 lbs X 8 = 504 lbs (plus the weight of the extra slide tray) and the L16's each weigh 121 lbs X 4 = 484 lbs. Other than the weight of the sliding tray the savings is 20 lbs.

A 63 pound battery I can change. I don't know about changing a 121 pound battery in a small space.

These new Lithium batteries have a much longer life than the earlier AGM battery. Probably 8 years. My only concern is the fact there have been some issues with overheating and fires with lithium batteries. Tesla and Boeing had an issue in the past. I hope the industry has resolved those issues.

The lithium batteries that caught fire were typically Lithium-Cobalt-Oxide (LiCoO2). The current batteries in use in most RV installations are Lithium Iron Phosphate, known as LiFePO4 or LFP. These are a very different chemistry and are not prone to spontaneously combusting, at a slightly lower energy density (still far better than lead-acid). That said, the new batteries in the current Entegras are still AGM. I don't know of any manufacturer in this price range that supplies lithium batteries.
