Radiator Fairy

The bad, bad radiator fairy got me. I've had to add some final charge about every other trip since July to show up in the bubble glass. However, arriving at The Great Outdoors yesterday, I saw the dreaded puddle of final charge fluid.

I emailed Joyce and told her and said we would be back in Alabama on Tuesday, and would like to see if the Spartan shop in Hammond, LA could do the radiator change out. Within a minute of sending the email (at 5:20 pm), Joyce called me and will be contacting Spartan today.

There is a Cummins shop in Mobile, Alabama, can they do it, or should we go to a Spartan shop?

Many Cummins facilities are also Spartan authorized so if that is the case I would pick the one you prefer.

Condolences. Not fun. Can't help you with the problem of where to have it done. I fretted about that too as I am located in the middle of nowhere. The Spartan shops are 4,6 and 8 hours away. In the end, I had it done at a "local" Spartan autorized repair shop 90 miles away. I did not bring Entegra into the loop as I knew this was a Spartan issue and did not expect Entegra to fix this. I dealt with Spartan directly, they were the ones that recommended the shop closer to home. Why not call Spartan and ask for David Martens (David.Martens@spartanmotors.com) to get their recommendation. Running everything through Entegra just delays communication.

Talked to Spartan and have an appointment at Foley RV to have the pics done and then they will ship a new radiator. Spartan said they have beefed up radiators now, so I shouldn't have a problem with the new one.

Did they say when they started beefing them up Lynn?

I should have asked, but I didn't, sorry. Said they have reinforced several places and wanted to reinsure me that they wouldn't be replacing it with just another radiator. That was the quote.

Lynn, how many miles do you have on your coach? We have 22k on our 2014 and worry about not if, but when.

Steve

Ours is a 2015 and we just turned 12,000 miles. Spartan and Entegra knows there is a problem - and I think it is going to be fairly painless getting it changed. Only problem is that we will have to take it twice to the facility and then will be out of it for a couple days. Spartan called the facility we are going to use, and they recommend them.

We are still in Florida, and will have to add some final charge on the way back to Alabama.

They told me it was to happen the first of 2016 so I may need another (had one replaced last fall at Spartan factory.)

Update: Went to Foley Auto and RV a week ago and they took pictures of the radiator. Said they had an Entegra in there the week before for the same thing! Anyway, they emailed the pictures to Charlie at Spartan ... he ok'd the replacement and ordered it. I spoke with Charlie today and the radiator is currently on the truck in Mobile, Alabama ...so is to be delivered tomorrow. I'm taking the coach there in the morning and leaving it until Monday. Hopefully they will be finished by Monday afternoon. (hope I didn't jinx myself)!

Nice folks at Foley Auto and RV ... I called and asked if I can keep the auto gen on instead of having to empty the refrigerator and they said yes. So, we will head to NOLA tomorrow afternoon and hopefully pick it up Monday night. Stay tuned .....
