Radiator Surge Tank

Add us to the list of rusted surge tank. Noticed some rust on the inside of the neck and was going to address the issue at annual appointment. However, it has now started leaking at a weld bead. Luckily it isn't a bad leak, but time for a replacement tank.

What is strange is the location on the tank. It's below the cold fill line and it appears the entire bead is failing with 6 different places in a line, either wet or dripping. The drip appears to be coming from 3 separate weep holes.

At our service appointment in Charlotte I asked them to check ours for rust (based on people talking about it on this forum) and lo and behold ours had rust in it and was replaced under warranty. Another item that should have been recalled.

As with Mike & Barb,

We were in the same Spartan class together, were it not for this forum I would have never thought to mention checking the "surge' tank, lo and behold, it had rust in the neck and was replaced along with fresh coolant installed under the Warranty!
By the way, Chester says hello to everyone, including Roxy!

When I had my radiator done, I asked spartan about the surge tank.
they must be well trained on this by now, they shipped a replacement to my service provider, and did not need to be asked to send the new sensor.

Note: The level sensor has been said to be nearly impossible to remove without damage, so a new sensor should be used in a new surge tank.
