I just threw away a perfectly good working Windows 98 laptop. Not only outdated with support no longer available, it weighed a ton and was really slow compared to my new laptops.

This is just something I've used for map updates on my Garmin bike computer - the web site allow you to get different map formats - one of them could work on you 7710 - I'm not familiar, so you're going to have to do some searching the internet "someone has likely posted about it somewhere".

I'm one that can not dump Software. Still have my copies of Windows 3.1 on 3.5 disks - I know 100% if I dump them, a weeks later I will need them for some reason

I find hardware easier to get rid of

I apologize if this is a repeat. There are (over) 7 pages of replies.

I had this issue and called RM. They had me delete a file on the SD card and it fixed everything. I'm really sorry, it was a few months ago and I can't remember the name of the file. I want to say it was config.something but take that with a huge grain of salt.

Point is, if you're still having the problem... call RM and see if this would work and if they can provide the file name.

This is a LONG thread but that information on that file in detailed in posts above this. It is a config file and it is easy to get rid of. Its location and the process are fully explained. For those having trouble with updates, get a cup of coffee (or if afternoon or later and cold beer), sit down, start at the beginning and learn some thing about Rand McNally system.

What else is there to do when COVID-19 is everywhere outside?

Finally got to updating this thing. It downloaded and installed map updates (yay!)
I noted the existence of the "navi.cfg" file but didn't touch it.

I put it back in as described above, boot up the unit, select "navi", and installed the card when prompted.

All setting were back to default so I guess it updated something, I reset them to where they should be.

When I went to the map, my screen included a GPS symbol with a red X through it!
Unit is showing me in the South Chicago suburbs. (I'm in Tennessee)
GPS Status said zero of 13 satellites!

I shut the unit down, brought the card back in the house. That navi.cfg file is no longer there! Dock software says "no updates available."
Try it again. This time it says 3 of 13 satellites, still outside of chicago, poor signal, no position fix.

We are having a storm tonight, a pretty good one. But I've been using GPS for decades and never seen one affected by weather.

Any ideas?
