Rattling gen slide cover

All nuts and bolts are tight but our gen slide cover rattles, especially on rough roads.
Was thinking of adding hard rubber stops to help isolate but was wondering if others have dealt with this and what solution was successful.
Thanks.
Tom

What was rattling on my coach was that the generator fiberglass cover was a little too high and the cover fiberglass cover was banging against the front end cap opening. I adjusted it down slightly to put more of a gap between those two fiberglass surfaces and also mounted several pieces of thick cushion across the top of the genny cover, and the rattle went away.

The 14's did not have any rubber seals around the generator area. After getting the door as even as possible. look for the contact points and add weather stripping to to those areas will solve the problem. Also the round corners at the top makes the generator door more solid as well.

Thanks for the ideas and photos. Didn’t want to do this twice……

On the classics there’s small Allen screws on each of the sliding rails. Tighten them down as much as you can while still allowing the rails to move. This will greatly reduce the rattle noise. I keep mine well lubricated to help with the sliding while being torqued down.

Also look at the locking latch. It too can be adjusted.

Thanks Dave. Went through them once before but will specifically look at those as well.
Thanks for the recommendations!

Dave, good ideas. The 14 was terrible for generator door noise. I spent what seemed forever adjusting everything possible, then sitting in front of the generator door while running. None of the adjustments were stopping the fiberglass door from vibrating. Grabbed the weather stripping and went to work. I few years later, Entegra had rubber strips all around the generator compartment on new coaches. Mine was so bad the generator sounded like it was inside while running down the road. My two newer coaches have been very quite right from the factory, but that 14 was something else.

I have a new to me 2015 Anthem, and my generator slide rattles way too much. Have made a few adjustments to the front cap and added some rubber weather stripping with less than acceptable results. I have read that the generator isolation mounts were not installed correctly. The generator will contact the frame allowing the vibrations to radiate into the slide mount assembly.
It was said that adding washers between the isolator and the generator lifting it up a bit helps.
It’s on my short list of mods to fix this very annoying issue. Will keep you posted with my results.

That was another thing that many were doing on the Classics. Thanks for bringing that up, I had forgotten about it. I did this and it also helped. It was one of Entegra's fixes that I added to the other side. https://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/rat...ix-212010.html
Here is Steve, C310 post on the bolts and washer fix. Looking for this link, I had forgotten how many of us had noise generators on the 14's. https://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/rat...ml#post2605315

Had some time today. Opened the generator slide and checked the distance from my generator housing to the slide frame. They were definitely in contact. This told me the isolation mounts could not possibly be functioning properly.
I removed all 4 center bolts from the isolation mounts. Jacked one end of the generator lifting it off the slide frame. I inserted 3 large fender washers between the generator and the isolator at each mount. Repeated for the other side. I replaced the bolts with a slightly longer 3/8”-18 bolts to account for the washers.
This gave me a 3/8” gap between the generator and the slide frame.
Now if I jiggle the generator, I can now see it floating on the rubber mounts.
I started my generator and it is so much quieter with almost no rattling.
I’d call this a 90% improvement. A few small tweaks of the latch and a bit of well placed foam and I will get to 99%.
This was just poor design and execution by Entegra. Easy fix by most owners with a few tools.
Happy trails all
Bob

Excellent mod! Thanks. I am pretty sure gen will have to be “raised”. As soon as we get parked for a longer stretch, I want to look into what the issue is.
We just left EC. My list of repairs was long enough to not add another.

We just returned from a long RV escorted tour that included two days of dry camping. I noticed my generator was louder than anyone else. I walked in front of the coach and touched the generator cover with my hand. The noise immediately quieted down. My quick fix was to stuff cardboard between the generator cover and coach body. It worked so well I left it in place for the remainder of the trip. We looked like backwoods travelers, but it was worth it

Thanks for posting the "real" fix that is needed. I will go to work soon with the changes.

That was my first fix as well, but I trimmed the cardboard to where it couldn't be seen. Most of the pieces stayed in place throughout the trip.
This post brought back memories, some I had forgotten about, of all the problems we had getting the generators quite on the 14's. They were terrible.
