Timely topic! I'm getting ready to tow my Equinox south this weekend. I use to pull it 4 down with my class C. Now I have a class A. Guess I better check my height!

Ok, I gotta ask a dumb question here....

If you have an active toad braking system, what difference does it make what the variance is? It's my understanding that the need to keep the hitch/towbar system level is to prevent submarineing/leapfrogging during panic braking. If the toad's brakes are activated during this time, it's gonna be pulling back on the motor home not pushing forward.

Even with brakes (they do not stop the MH) there is pressure against the tow bar when the toad is pushing to a stop. With a level tow bar that pressure is designed to push against the hitch and the 40,000 pound MH. If the tow bar is not level that pressure in against the tow bar and not the much heavier MH. Constant pushing against the tow bar, out of level and they break.

If using the toad brakes to pull the MH to a stop, the toad brake pads will need changing every few thousand miles. The toad brakes should be set for hard stops only to avoid excessive wear.

I see the confusion regarding the tire size on the Aspire, rvbmw1. The 2011 Aspire rear tires are 275's, the 2013 Aspire rear tires are 295's.. Both year models have 275's on the front. In any event,as brobox stated, the Spartan Mountain Master Chassis rear height should be the same for hitch purposes. Safe travels.. dd

I don't think so! Most of our towbars will not attached to that hitch.

You're putting words in my mouth. I never said that the toad was used to stop the MH. I said during a panic stop (which means that both the mh and toad are braking hard) the toad, since it is much lighter, will be pulling back (trying to stop quicker) on the mh...not forward. Under normal braking situations, I believe if using a proportional toad braking system that is adjusted correctly, the same scenario will still apply. The only time the toad will be "pushing" against the mh will be in a "coasting" situation, and the pressure applied will be minimal. I just don't see where this close variance (3" or less) is necessary. That said, I have adjusted mine to where the tow bar is almost perfectly level.

Not trying to put words in your mouth only answered the question as I read it, sorry it won't happen again.

Most of the better tow bars fit directly on a receiver hitch. Because ball hitches can and do pop off at times when in a bind(I have had it happen) I would never pull my toad with a ball hitch. All JMHO

Ditto, have never seen a good tow bar that connects to a ball.

gotcha never used a bar.. I have a dolly that I do not pull behind my rig. I use a 24' trailer so I can get the golf cart and the car on it at the same time.

Well I have spent the last two days making a total fool of myself! It may not matter to some who read these posts, but I owe rvbmw1 an APOLOGY.. He is right & I'm wrong! The 2013 Aspire has 295 tires on the FRONT& as rvbmw1 stated the REAR tires are in fact 275!!!! I'm better off reading the posts rather than responding.. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!! By the way we love our Entegra, even with the 275 tires on the rear! dd
