Reciever hitch change?

Has anyone replaced the reciever hitch yet? I got extremely lucky this weekend but now I have to replace a hitch. It sheared off completely. I caught it before the trailer went off to the woods. I will post pics tomorrow. I would like to go to a beefed up setup just for the safety margin.

Please add year and model of your coach so others can be on the lookout for issues they might have.

Save all the hardware removed from your MH related to the installation of your hitch as it needs to be investigated to determine cause of failure. This failure should also be reported to appropriate government safety agencies to assure it's added to any count of failures already reported.

You can't just tease us with your statement: "I got extremely lucky..."

There has to be more to the story.

Take care,
Stu

You mentioned a trailer, but no mention of what pound hitch rating your coach has. How many pounds did the trailer weigh? I have not seen an Entegra on this forum with a hitch failure, except when it involved a Hydralift Motorcycle Lift conversion.

Not many would participate in the forum if they had to tap everyone's avatar to see what each post is regarding. Personally, I skip a lot of post that don't offer information. JMO.

I had a Country Coach where I almost lost my receiver. I was taking the tow bar off after a 4000 mile trip and noticed the receiver tube flex and when I checked I found one of the welds holding the receiver tube had popped. Simply a bad weld that had lasted for many miles until it gave up. Gotta check your equipment regularly because you never know.

It is not easy, but once you get that far try clicking on the "About Me" tab.

fishsmith...Do you have any idea what caused it to shear off?

I don't recall seeing that problem on these forums over the past 14 years.
