Removing step light
My step light is probably burned out. The amber cover spins. Before I break it, what is the trick to remove it?

Shine a really bright light at the cover from the side. I expect you'll be able to see where there are two 'clips' molded in to the cover. Squeeze where those clips are and the cover will pop off.

On my 14 Anthem the step light is just an automotive license plate light and it is stuck on with double sided tape.
Later...

It's commonly an automotive clearance light. It's probably a #194 bulb. If it's round and has a plastic base it will snap off using a flat bladed screwdriver. There's often a small gap to fit the blade into somewhere around the base of the lens. Fit the blade between the edge of the lens and the base and twist. If you break the lens, any auto parts store will have a replacement as well as a complete replacement light. Change it out to a LED version and it'll be good for a long time to come.

Anyone mod the light under step if not seems like it would be a nice led project.

I replaced mine with a led strip that runs the width of the step. It’s actually useful now.
I used outdoor rated IP67 bulk strip with adhesive tape on the back cut to the length of the panel above the top length.

Very easy project to do. I used blue strips LED on each step. The backing is metallic duct tape. The tape sticks great to a clean step bottom and the waterproof LED's to the tape surface. Makes for a great night light without offending any neighbors.
BTW: I removed the lens on the main light with a pocket knife, just popped the lens off. I removed the bulb when I installed the LED's.

I like that even better. Did you use wire taps or butt connectors? What keeps the wire leads from getting pinched when opening/closing the steps?

It's been so long since I did that, I am not sure what connectors I used. IIRC I connected to the light connection itself. The leads I made a loop with the wire so the steps could move in and out. For wire I used single strand speaker type wire, stiff to hold the shape and small enough to fit anywhere. It was left over from a garage door opener they use for the safety beams at the bottom.

Thanks! I will add this to my “to do” list when we have longer stays and warmer temps.
