Repacking drivers and passenger seats (follow up)
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to update the board of the progress with repacking our seats with firmer foam.
Removal was a relatively straight forward process. remove 4 3/4" nuts which hold the base plate to the floor. In order to do that you need to remove the lower apron from the seat. A couple zip screws and it slips off rearward. The wiring harness is zip tied nice and tidy in the rear of the seat behind the apron. Disconnect a few wires and it's ready to remove.
Now with that said these seats are heavy as all hell! I mean like 150+lbs. The passenger seat is about 6" wider that the drivers. I don't understand why. There would be a lot more swivel room if it were narrower. Anyway, being so wide it's more difficult to get it through the door. The drivers seat sneaks through with a few mm to spare.
I brought them to a local upholsterer who removed the leather and packed it with a nice, firm foam. This week, I drove the coach to Middlebury for my 2 year PDI and what a difference.
A few things to note:
I sit much higher. That was good and bad. Good because I have a better view of the gauges, bad because the seat belt. digs into my shoulder and collar bone more that ever. I absolutely hate this design. Also I needed to adjust my arm rests and steering wheel position. It took a little getting used to but once I reset everything I loved it. It's supportive and comfy. I did not feel the fatigue which I used to with the softer foam.
The costs was $650/seat, worth every penny. A great mod!
