Repacking the Drivers and Passengers seats, 18 Anthem

The wife and I think the captains seats are way to soft. We are looking into repacking them with some firmer foam. Wondering if there is any wisdom on this subject. Has anyone else done this?

Not the most elegant solution but I stuffed a couple of magazines between the spring and cushion. I simply couldn't tolerate the mushy seat on my 2015 Anthem.

I want to follow this - i think as some point I'm going to want to replace the foam in the both seats - I use the drivers seat and small table as my workspace.

Both front seats have Beverly little cushion foam, especially the P/S seat. I hope to find someone in our travels who can add some additional foam for comfort.

Buddy, on our ‘17, there are a few tricks to disassembling the Flexsteel seats.

Contact Entegra CS for the Rep. For your brand seats and they can hook you up with instructions.

In our case, there is a thin plastic liner inside the seat cover. Don’t discard as this is essential to reassembly. Once you’ve done whatever you choose, wrap the foam with the plastic and the seat cover will slide right on.

Personally, I would (and plan to) farm this particular project out as shaping the foam and getting it right can be a messy challenge.

I hope this helps,

-Matt

We just had both seats recovered and in the process ordered extra firm base and cushion inserts from Flexsteel for both. The term “extra firm” is a little misleading. It is an upgrade over the cheaper cushion material coach builders typically select when ordering FlexSteel seats. Huge improvement. Yes it is more firm, but results in a very comfortable seat to sit in.

Don’t know where you are, but in Nacagdoches Texas there is a place called Infinity Coach that does remodels. But to the point, they also have full equipment to fix captain seats, they recovered my arm rests. They have a lot of different colors of Ultraleather in stock and are quite reasonable. They will also replace foam with memory foam if desired. You may want to talk to them; they have one parking spot with 50A power while you wait.

Yes, Matt. I am removing the seats and brining them to an upholsterer. This is not a job I would attempt.

I'm following this as well. We want to do something with our seats as well, like add some extra padding.

Just had our 2019 Cornerstone drivers seat redone. At this point it’s good news, bad news. The good news is it made the seat waay more comfortable for long trips! The bad news is, at least at this point, it changed the geometry of the way I sit. I sit higher in the seat so that changes what you see and also how your arms contact the armrests. I’m hoping that as time goes on, it will “wear in” more.

What foam did you use? Did the re-pad the entire seat, backrest and bolsters or just the butt pad?

We ordered the foam from Flexsteel. We did not change the foam in the back. The seat ( bottom) has two parts being the foam base and cushion. Both were replaced for both the driver and passenger seats. I also discovered that the swivel pedestal the drivers seat mounts on was 1/4” out of square that obviously is the reason the driver seat would unevenly collapse over time to the right. Amazing what improvement a small shim has made.

I don’t know what foam they used. They replaced the foam in the entire seat as I wasn’t that happy with the back support either. They said they used a “much higher” quality. It certainly was denser!
