Replace Washer Control Board

We have a Whirlpool WFW3090JW washer that mysteriously went into demo mode. After turning off demo mode it now throws an "rES" or "rE5" code and does not function. I am surmising that it is a bad control board.

I have found no instructions or videos on replacing a control board in our model washer. Has anyone done this or have a clue how to access the board. I don't want to order a board until I know this. Thanks.

You have to pull the washer out, remove the cover at the top and then you can access the control board. Not too difficult. I would have the new board before you remove the washer.

Thank you Bobby. So #21 on the diagram is the part in question.

Several good YouTube Videos on the control board issue. I found this one interesting, it was a capacitor, which the $22. meter from Harbor Freight posted a few weeks ago has he correct tester built in. I doubt a 21 year coach would have something to major. Is it still under warranty with Entegra or Whirlpool?

That was an interesting video. It would be practical to do for a household washer with good access. If I were to go to the trouble of pulling it out of the cabinet I would probably just replace the board or the washer. The whirlpool warranty is done and 2 months shy of the entegra warranty.

#21 isn’t the board you need. It might be #24, but can’t tell for sure.
Anyway the board you need is in back lower left corner. It’s the main control board.
#21 only controls the readout on the panel.

Thanks for the input. Apparently no one on the forum has replaced one of these. It is hard to tell but 24 may be the motor control board. Both 21 and 24 are only identified on the parts list as CNTRL-ELECT.

I found a post at the below link. It has a link for procedures to perform a detailed self check. The last post talks about exiting the demo mode. You may want to try that if it isn’t the same procedure you followed.

I have replaced one and several others I know have replaced the main power board.
They are hard to find. Last one Entegra came up with.
You have to remove the washer to get to the board. Directions say to turn washer on its side, but there’s a panel on the back that allows you to replace the board. The actual board is encased in a plastic housing.
That board controls everything on the washer except the digital readouts. Motor, water valves, spin speed, drain, everything!

I feel your pain! I just pulled my WFW3090JW from a 22 Cornerstone - does not work at all and comes on by itself if left plugged in. If you google the washer - it has been a troublemaker since it inception with a common repair of replacing both the Control unit and the console unit (each with a list price of $535- together more than the cost of the unit). This was a standard washer on Fleetwoods and their forum has some good info. Email me and I will send you the service manual for this specific model. I can't seem to upload it.
IT WILL GIVE YOU A DETAILED WAY TO ENTER TEST MODE WITH ALL THE CODES AND THEIR MEANING! Alternatively, you can access this manual when you pull the top off - 2 screws in the back of the machine and you will find the manual.

We are in the middle of a 3 month trip without a functioning washer! Wife not a happy camper! Entegra has been helpful in locating and getting parts shipped to us at our next destination. Trouble is trying to coordinate a certified whirlpool tech to schedule install while on our trip. Whirlpool said I could not replace boards or it would void warranty, Yet they are not helpful in trying to schedule the repair.

But, first call Entegra and get a Customer support number before it runs out -they have a 2 year Whirlpool warranty (#S22583) with Jayco on the washer.

Good Luck

Thanks all for the additional input. I had a 50/50 chance on the control board and apparently ordered the wrong one. What a pain! If someone who has replaced the main control board for this washer (WFW3090JW0) could provide the part number that would be helpful. Every parts site I go to seems to have a different part number.

able

The ACU #W11367297 that is control unit that controls everything

The console #W11574590 is for the Digital display and touch dials

Despite the list price these can be found on a number of sites for less than half price.....But make sure you notify Entegra BEFORE the 2 year expiration
