So I may be completely off base here but why is there a need to replace the entire switch? I was under the impression that Carling switches had interchangeable "actuators" (aka covers or switch tops)?

I don't know for sure what series the switches Entegra uses, but if they are the common Contura series units, wouldn't the path of least resistance be to simply pop the actuator off the new switch and install it on the existing switch?

Even better, wouldn't replacing just the actuator be a lot less costly than buying an entire new switch?

I don't know if this is exactly the right one, but once the switch model/series can be identified it should be fairly straightforward to find the right part: Carling V Series VVM9Z00-000

Here's some info on how to remove/install the actuators: https://rockerswitchpros.com/removeswitchactuators/

Good Carling knowledge, voltdoc. All Contura series switches have the actuators separate from the switch bodies (as you noted) except for one, the Contura XII series. Up until 2017 Entegra used all Contura series V switches. Starting in the 2017 model year, they continued to use all Contura V series switches with the exception of the Jake Brake switches, which are Contura XII. Why? Because the Jake Brake switches are special manufactured for Freightliner, who uses all XII series.

But they are cool switches...because they are paddles and have a very different "feel" than all the rest of the switches on the panel, it is easy to use your Jake without taking your eyes off the road.

OK yes I see what you mean, there is a difference in the switch body. What's confusing is the the Contura II, II, IV, V, VI, VII, X, XI, XII & XIV actuators are are all part of the "V-series". The roman numerals seems to relate only to the actuator style.

What isn't clear is there apparently are two switch body styles. The original body that fits the Contura II, II, IV, V, VI & VII actuators and another with a raised lip or bezel that fits the X, XI & XII actuators. So the II, III, IV, V, VI & VII actuators are interchangeable among the standard switch body and the X, XI & XII actuators are interchangeable among the raised bezel switch body.

Too bad the entire switch needs to be swapped to get the paddle style actuator (XII). If the exact Carling part # were known it might be possible to find the switch for a lot less than a dealer charges. I checked my older copy of the Spartan schematics and it lists the Carling bezel-less switch style part number (VSD1160B), but the latest Spartan schematics should have the Carling part number for the XII style switch.

Oddly enough, jestal was able to get the print for the 2017 and it still has the VSD1160B switch called out. Actually, at twenty bucks, the price isn't much above retail.

Super glue a washer on top of the switch. Easy to feel without looking at it.

It should work on your 2016 no problem.

Thanks John,
I just cracked the code on my dealers parts dept. I now have a 24/7 line to reach them on along with a new switch (0269273) on order. $25 plus shipping. They say 2 weeks.

John, I really appreciate your assistance on this. I'm really looking forward to getting it in. Expecting this to be my best "front end" mod!

John, is that a Beaver sales part number or is it an Entegra part number? I would like to order a switch and tried once from Beaver coach and they never contacted me after I emailed them requesting that part number. I will try again, but want to verify whose part number it is. Thanks in advance.

That's an Entegra part number, so any Entegra dealer can do it, as well as Entegra Middlebury. I found the price at Middlebury was about double.

Switch is in. Will do a functional check road test next week to ensure it does more than just look/feel good!

MHSRV Parts dept ordered the switch for me. Took about 4 weeks to get it due to back order at JAYCO. Cost was $22.

It was interesting that the tag dump also had a different switch than the plug resulting in the same method of connecting used for the new brake switch.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the research to make this happen[emoji106]
