Rettroband Saved the Day

Just ran across this bit of news that I felt I needed to share.

An owner of a 2018 King Aire, one of the heaviest class A diesel coaches, was driving from Atlanta to Las Vegas today when he had a front tire blowout. The Rettroband performed exactly as intended and exactly as it did during testing at the Nevada Auto Testing Center during the initial Rettroband testing. The inside sidewall blew out on the driver's side while driving on the Interstate at highway speeds. At first the driver thought he had a hose blow because the coach didn't pull but he heard a "pop". After a bit it started to pull a bit to the left so he pulled over to check things out.

He found that the tire stayed on the rim and there was zero damage to the coach. He continued on for a mile or so to get off the freeway and get to a tire shop, who said they never saw anything like that. This was the original version 1.0 Rettroband but National Indoor RV centers is standing behind them and replacing them all with the version 2.0, which is more idiot proof so that an installer can't damage the Rettroband by overtightening them any more. The version 2.0 bands are due to land at NIRVC facilities shortly.

The Rettrobands have purposely been blown at highway speeds during the testing phase but now there is a real world example of how the Rettroband performs during a blowout. Attached is a photo of the blown tire.

What a great share Mark, thank you. That is amazing, not the first bit of body rash.

Thanks Mark - great info! NIRVC doesn't need to spend a dime on Rettroband advertising from this point forward; all they have to do is provide a link to your post and the photo.

Having experienced a steer tire blowout on a previous motorhome (2010 Tiffin Allegro Bus), I can assure you our coach didn't fare anywhere near that well. And neither of us (Amy or yours truly) had any trouble figuring out what had just happened!

As as side note, I see a Newmar 50 year anniversary emblem on that King Aire. Newmar was founded in 1968. Even if the coach was built in early 2018, the tire that blew would still have less than four years in service. The point being, it's unlikely the tire failed due to age.

Thanks for the post Mark. I also had a front left blowout that ultimately caused over $18K in damage. And I had Tyrons. To be fair the Tyrons may have kept me from even more serious damage or worse, I'll never know. But the difference in your picture and mine speaks volumes. And the difference between my rig pulling me a lane and a half to the left, to his not pulling him at all; on a busy highway that could save lives. Rettrobands are on my list once they become available again.

Well, its nice to see that they do exactly what we were told they were supposed to do, and if you watched the videos on the web, the same that was shown in the video on their web page. Definitely something that we will add when they become more available.

Alright, Iím calling BS. Thereís no damage to the tire? That blew out on the highway at speed? And was driven to a tire shop to be replace? After it blew out? And thereís not the slightest bit of track on the asphalt leading to the tire? This is nothing more than an ad, pretending to be a legitimate post.

dizcom, I wonít speak to Markís authority, but he knows what he is talking about.
Please research what RetroBands are all about before you say bs.
Iíve got them on my coach for the very same reason:Safety.
If I were to add one thing to the discussion, I wonder how much Comfort Steer (Newmar) added to the owner keeping control of an extremely large vehicle. Great job BTY!
If I were to upgrade, my next coach would have that same feature along with RetroBands.

Look at the evidence right in front of you. It performed exactly as it did at the Nevada test? Who talks like that? This is guano. Mark might be the greatest guy in the world, but the FB poster is full of it.

My personal credit check.
Mark Quasius, Cruzer, the OP. One of the most knowledgeable persons I know in the RV world. I have followed his articles in FMCA as well as online publications for years. I have never seen any of his writing one sided for profit, he calls them as he sees them and has readily shared his knowledge with others.

Rettrobands, Brett Davis President. I have followed Rettrobands thanks to Brett's invitation, all through testing before they were put on the open market, I was sold! They work as shown. Brett Davis, President and CEO of NIRVC treats all of his customers like family. The last thing I could ever see Brett do is a publicity stunt to sell a product. As many know he has done a recall on all of the first addition Rettrobands, 100% out of pure honesty and as he has said many times, "so I can sleep at night"

dizcom that made the statement "Iím calling BS" is entitled to his opinion, like I am mine. I know the two people mentioned above, but I do not know dizcom or any qualifications other than an opinion. Statements are easy to make without documentation. I have seen the documentation and testing videos of Rettrobands, they work.
