Rock chip to major crack in 2,300 miles!
On our way to Boise I noticed a small rock chip near center and just above the windshield rubber seal. By the time we got to Boise it had climbed, turned right but started back down a little. When we got to Moab the crack had turned upwards again. It's hard to tell how high it is but notice it is still below the bottom of the Magic Eye sensor. Winston is supervising and offering perspective. If it had continued downward I would probably leave it, now I am worried it will suddenly grow the height of the windshield. I think my glass coverage is only my comprehensive. I will call Progressive tomorrow.

A real Bummer, feel for you. Did that happen due to road construction in the Boise south to Utah area? There has been a few posts from others recently on that stretch of interstate experiencing rock chips due to construction. I have been in that area recently but fortunately slipped thru unharmed. It's been tore up and poorly posted for a year.

Feel your pain. After experiencing several rock chips and having them repaired by Safety-T-Glass we finally took one in the rubber gasket at the top of the window. Cracked all the way down. Seems the edges are touchy when it comes to rock chips.

I don't recall when I first saw the chip. I think it was when I cleaned the windshield our first or second overnight on the way north so was Texas or New Mexico. It didn't grow much until the temperature dropped, another reason to be fair-weather RVers!

Vance & Robin, In case your not aware of it you might want to check with EC CS on where or from who you should buy your windshield. As you may know EC windshields are specially made with a particular glass that won't distort vision in the curved outer edges. Not all glass producers use that type of glass. FWIW.

YUP--chips on/near the edge of the glass are very susceptible to cracking and "running" -- must be a stress thingy. Sometimes you can stop a run by using a small drill bit to drill just the outer layer of glass at the very tip of the crack. My experience with even a timely patch from Safe-Lite, is that it won't stop an edge chip from eventually cracking.

I carry one of these repair kits from Amazon just as a temporary fix to keep a chip from running. Not a perfect solution but a cheap band aid when you are on the road.

I always stop at the first campground I find after getting a rock chip and have it repaired. My insurance will pay for the repair non deductible but $500!if it has to be replaced. Have had several repaired over the years and never had Ron run after that. My travel supreme, before I got it X braced ate windshields for breakfast. No such problem with Entegras. All JMHO

I got a rook chip before reaching my first 1,500 mikes. It is about a foot up from the bottom, in the center. Had it filled by Safe lite and insurance covered it. That panoramic window is a rock magnet.

Had a rock chip a year ago that was very minor but with sitting for 2 weeks at a campsite not moving it spread to a 2' crack on its own just from the heating and cooling of the windshield in the sun. I feel your pain.

This. Once I get a chip I stop immediately and get it professionally repaired. I have three in my current 50,000 mile windshield with no runs past a quarter inch or so.
