Route around Atlanta

What is the best route around Atlanta to avoid peaceful protesters if you were heading towards Helen, GA?

To avoid downtown I-285 will work. To avoid the area altogether use 83 at Forsyth then a few others state highways to make your way there. More time but keeps you out of the greater Atlanta area.

Iíve been through Atlanta twice in the last mouth and a half. If you can go at off hours, the best way right now is through Atlanta on 75. I donít know if itís because Covid but fewer people are on the road so traffic has been reasonable. Since semis have to divert to I285, there are no trucks. I never slowed down either time.

I gone around Atlanta on the circular beltway around Atlanta, and I have gone through Atlanta on I-75 and I-20 essentially straight through downtown, and my experience is that you can get into serious delays of hours on both routes with equal probability. Now, demonstrations are most likely downtown near I-75 in the general area of Grady Memorial Hospital and Georgia State, so if it is demonstrations that you are trying to avoid, any route other than I-75 is probably better.

As others have said, I have drive I-75 several times at rush hour (its a real mess of stop and go traffic in like all 6 to 8 lanes going in each direction) and I have traveled the same route in early morning and early evening, and the roads were virtually deserted. Depends on time of day...

I talked with the State Troopers before going into Atlanta last month. They suggested the bypass and to travel in the morning. I was told there are no demonstrations in the morning hours. We did that (around 10AM) and didnít have any heavy traffic or difficulties.

Looks like I-75 to Macon and then follow US 129, US 441 and US 19 North.

Looks to like an Aspire 44B with a flat tow should be okay through these roads. What say you?

Thank you.

Route Around Atlanta

Went through twice yesterday no problems. Use HOV lane and go. The HOV lane provides more room. I go between rush hours. During rush hour the bypass can be as bad if not worse than through town.

I appreciate your post. We are headed to Middlebury from Florida for a service appointment in early August. Lots of larger urban centers along the way on I75 that we have passed through without a problem on previous trips. I have been looking at different routes and bypassing large cities. Not a paranoid person but I am careful and want avoid getting caught in the wrong place at the wrong time when I am towing at 65’ and can’t turn around...

100% agreed. Canít back out without disconnecting the towed vehicle.

This is what I am considering. Now I am just wondering, what type of clearance issues would there be? Always a concern.

Thank you.
