Running Warmer
Our Aspire is 4 1/2 years old with 32k miles. The engine is running 3-5 degree's warmer, especially when climbing a grade. I am hitting 199-201 when climbing, it never hit those numbers in the past. Coolant and all the hydraulic fluid and filters were replaced last fall. It still has the original radiator and I don't have any coolant leaks. Spartan said check the fan operation, from what I can tell it is operating ok. I am not overheating, just want to make sure I don't have any future issues.
ISL 450 engine, anybody else seeing this or have any suggestions.
My next step is to take it to spartan/cummins and let them check it
thanks in advance

Not a big rise in temp. Could be as simple as blowing out radiator they get dust dirt and bugs in them. On my commercial trucks this is a problem we deal with constantly as they operate in dirty conditions. Even on highway rigs lots of dust on roads eventually causes buildup.

My guess would be the same that Spartan said, check the radiator fan. It likely is at least a two-speed fan, perhaps the faster setting isn't kicking in when the coolant temperature calls for it. You might search for information on your radiator fan control.

I've had three motorhomes with the ISL450 and 199-201 is well within normal operating range, especially when climbing.

Our 15 Anthem with same power package has always been in that range when climbing. No change at ~30,000 miles currently.

Once a year, I spray the radiator down with Awesome cleaner, then hose it out. You would not believe the amount of dirt that comes out of the the radiator.
I purchase a gallon at the dollar store, don't laugh, this stuff puts Simple Green etc to shame. I soak the radiator down with a pump up sprayer, then hose it out from the back side.

Clean the radiator if you haven't already and keep the RPM's up. It it's a 4, 5, or 6% grade, downshift to 5th or 4th gear and keep the RPS's north of 2100.

What you are seeing is a minuscule difference in temperatures and not worth worrying about. Good advice from Brobox re radiator cleaning, should be done periodically as a normal maintenance item.

So... is 2012 the year of your RV or the temperature reading?
I agree, cleaning the radiator is always a good idea. Awesome from the Dollar store and a hose - - don't use a pressure washer, it can bend the fins.

thanks for the reply's. I did clean the radiator, it made no difference. I thought maybe it was changing from towing a jeep to an F150. When I took it out without, it still went up to 201. I will keep an eye on it

I would love to have those temps. Out here, especially when the asphalt is 110-115, I routinely see 210-212 before the fan kicks it down.

What are the outside temps? Lately it has been close to 100 all across the nation. That will cause a temperature difference when pulling a grade and the heavier Ford may have as well. Still within the normal range.

Same temps I see on my classic Aspire. Just drove from DFW to Ruidoso, NM, and it ran 198-203 depending on the time of day with summer heat. At my 3 Year Spartan service they cleaned my radiator and said it was dirty. Will follow Chucks suggestion earlier. Temps have been normal for mine, with 40,000 miles.
