Agree about the straps wicking moisture. That picture is another demonstration of why I prefer a battery compartment with a floor lined with fiberglass (below the battery tray).

I replaced the tie downs with those giant zip ties used for AC ducts. The zip ties are about 3 or 4 ft long.

You guys need to be washing/rinsing battery compartments every time you wash the coach. Use plenty of water.

POR 15 is the best stuff as far as correcting the rusty trays. It works!

the hydraulic oil is from the vent on the tank cap, nothing major there! You can use some thick gear oil on some Denso tape ( we use this on out offshore oil rig hydrualic connections to reduce corrosion), just a slight coat of gear oil on the denso tape and wrap the fittings should solve that issue. But by all means clean them real good first!
As for the battery tray, just a poor design i think. But the design allows a leaking battery to leak to the ground without eating up undercarriage frame work any worse than the battery tray!
We had a battery leak and corrode our tray. I removed batteries and tray, guide rollers and all. treated the acid, sanded to metal and treated , then used a bedliner type costing material on tray and all framework in the bay. Went back with the spiral cell sealed AGM batteries so no worries with adding water!

This was not a battery leak as the coach in question had AGM's as standard equipment.

The battery compartment does have a heavy plastic liner below the battery tray, between it and the road.
