RV Dogs

After 2 years of RV travel with our dogs we decided today to start saying "No" when people ask if our dogs are friendly. They love all people but we never know how they will react to other dogs. They are very rough with each other, most dogs don't know how to react to their "play." Dexter (white head) is the dominant dog. Winston (dark ears) seems to want to dominate when he can and his big brother is quick to defend him.

So. When we meet if you ask if our dogs are friendly with other dogs we will say, "No."

That would be difficult to believe as they look so cute but it's the best thing to do as you never know how they'll react to others.

I ALWAYS tell people no... even with just one dg...
With two that are used to each other, that just doubles the jeopardy...
just too much of a possibility of something ruining TWO families trip

Ours gets quite enough play whenever he wants....

Sad to say it, but it's just safer to us...

Our "pocket pal" will not have a thing to to with other dogs. She was attacked by a pit bull on our way home, at a rest area bringing her home from the breeder just outside of Shipshewana. As many times as I have told people she is terrified of other dogs they insist that their dogs make friends. I have had to be a little harsh with some of them.

Dexter overreacted this afternoon to Winston and another dog playing in leash. When we were sitting outside with glasses of grape the woman came back by with her dog! Win was great, Dex wanted to be the big brother and put both in their place. Some people just don't get it.

We use to have that problem with other dog owners with our brindle boxer Holly. They never understood how rough Boxers love to pay.

Unfortunately 2 weeks ago that problem ceased to exist. We sure wish it still existed as it is much better then this alternative.

Love and enjoy them while you have them because when they depart it hurts really bad !

We are also very cautious, particularly with big dogs. And really resentful to the owners who insist that their big dog is friendly and can play with our little guys. One of ours is terrified of big dogs and has only met one she liked (a golden that responds to little dogs by immediately laying down and rolling over to show that she is harmless - they call her the dog whisperer). The Yorkie can think he's a junkyard guard dog and we have to be cautious how he reacts. Fortunately he's easy to scoop up. The other two are fine with all but we still watch who and when. They've made new friends on the road - and we've met some that make us turn around and pick a different path for our walk. One couple we met this year had just had one of their little babies killed by a German Shepard. They were on their own patio and the Shepard was tethered on an adjoining campsite. He had been relocated and his owners had not realized that his lead would reach the neighbors patio. We just can't be too careful with our furchildren. I respect your decision. I think it's a wise choice.

We have truly enjoy traveling in our various RV's with our four legged family member OLIVER over the past 15 years. Oliver is having a difficult time walking even with medications and two recent surgeries. Kathy, Oliver and I are leaving Thursday for a two week excursion to Sisters Oregon to enjoy the Sisters Rodeo. Our veterinarian has told us this will most likely be Oliver's final rodeo. Enjoy them while you can.

Our younger Boston, Winston, thinks he is a big dog and wants to play. We have to control him as he usually gets hurt.

Funny that my wife and I were just talking about this! We have two yorkie pups that are 7 months old. They think they rule all dogs the bigger the better. Keeping them quite and from causing a disruption when someone approaches with another dog is a real problem and creates the dilemma of trying to explain or "being rude" and heading the other way!

To the others that lost their friends we share your pain as our last yorkie died in early December just a few weeks shy of her 20 year birthday. After being with her that long my wife and I were a basket case. Fortunately we did get to spend lots of time with her and she did get to go "camping" in our coach a few times even though she was blind and deaf. As long as she could smell us her tail was always wagging.

I'm sure some people think ill off us as we cross the street when we see another dog coming to stay far away as possible.

Good thing yorkies are small and can be scooped up or reeled in rapidly when necessary as we have had some close calls with ours over the years with other bigger aggressive dogs.

We always use harnesses on them instead of a collar so they can just be plucked up by the leash if necessary!!

The ribbon cutting will be their first real outing in the coach so we are hoping for the best !!!

I say no all the time. My dog isn't fond of children, and children are unpredictable, so I prefer children not attempt to pet my dog. Adults always seem to go for the head, and my dog, like most dogs, will TOLERATE head pats, but don't actually enjoy them.

So to be my dog's advocate, I say no. She's much happier.

We have a Pom that was raised by a Lab/Golden mix. He thinks all big dogs are as friendly as his sister and when you add that to a "I love everybody!" personality it gets interesting on walks. One of us usually picks him up until we are a safe distance or make absolutely sure the other dog is friendly. Our big dog on the other hand is very shy around other dogs but loves people and wants to visit everyone. It usually takes both of us at walk time……………. Other bad habits……Barney thinks he's a retriever also and we can't keep him out of the water, Daisy loves driving the coach (I let her drive the Tiffin but haven't given up control of the Entegra yet…...)
