RV parks near Yuma and Albuquerque and Austin

Good morning,
We are making plans for our winter trip. We're stating in LV and heading south and the east eventually landing in Florida ~ February/March. We have booked Vegas, but nothing else at this point. Our next thoughts were Yuma, then Albuquerque to visit our nephew. From there we head to Austin. We are undecided after that. Looking for recommendations for those three cities.

Thanks in advance

We stayed at Longhorn RV park in Niederwald just south of Austin last New Years. Nice enough, clean.

For four years, we always spend a week or two at Fortuna de Oro in Yuma... Located east of downtown just before you leave Yuma proper. Bunch of BIG RV parks in the general area, but Fortuna de Oro seemed like one of the nicer. Standard desert RV park plus tons of Park Models in their own section. Nice pool and a daily afternoon pool party with good entertainment and at cost drinks and beer. Lots of chairs and tables around the pool. Also has all the other stuff that big RV parks have (except no golf). Nice location. Nice people. Well worth the money IOO. Usually see 3 or 4 other Entegras in the motorcoach area. This is a place where a lot of owners stay for several months.

In Albuquerque we used to stay at either American RV Resort or Route 66 RV Resort. Route 66 is behind a casino that has great restaurants inside. Both are highly recommended.

We have also stayed at Fortuna de Oro in Yuma. With over 80 RV parks in
Yuma you have many choice's. The Palm's would be another good choice for Yuma.

We always stay at American RV Resort In ABQ. Route 66 looks nice but it’s 10 mi further west on I-40. And Route 66 RV is new so no shade to speak of.

We were just at American last month for a week. They were doing their best to catch up with park maintenance that fell behind due to Covid restrictions. But it’s still a nice park.

We tried the ABQ KOA one year but didn’t like the location in an industrial area in southeast ABQ.

For Austin check out McKinny Falls State Park. It’s super close to town and is a nice State Park.

Being newbies, and wanting to escape from cold Indiana in Jan, Feb, Mar how far out do we need to book in the SW USA for winter months?

Depending on what you define as Winter might make a big difference. There are three pass's that get significant snow and ice in winter. First is coming into William AZ, the second is near Grants/Gallups, and third is going out of ABQ over the mountains. If your eventually heading to Austin, go south on I25 to I10 and take the I20 cutoff. You can dogleg down to Austin from most anyplace.

In the SW, before January 1 is usually considered the fall shoulder season. Often you can get reduced rates for two or three months involving lets say Oct/Nov/Dec. CalAm resorts are usually structured that way.... not sure if COVID and the reported increase in RV sales will change that. But before, January, availability is generally better and rates are less. Sometimes those three months can be booked in one reduced fee. However, once you hit January, now you are in high season in the SW and we have been traveling primarily on the SW for the past 6 years and good RV parks are really filling up. We looked for month or several week long booking in Yuma and Tucson last year and while there were still spaces available booked in early January, there were far fewer open spaces and at one park which always had open slots, there was no availability at all during the time period that we wanted to be there.

With most things, the safest concept is "book as early as possible". Then you take chances on break-downs, delays, unanticipated medical issues and needs, etc etc. etc. But the earlier the better.

Im an Austinite. Depending on what you'd like to do, Id also look south between Austin and San Antonio. Caverns, good food, lakes and streams in San Marcos / New Braunfels.
