Very good advice! We have a friend that is a forensic accident investigator that says get the best dash camera set up you can, one that records front, rear, in cab as well as sound, GPS location and speed. The ones I have can even "wake up" and record when parked if it detects any motion. He said that the video will stand up in court. I have them installed in all 6 vehicles, never had to use them but I think it's cheap insurance (well not exactly cheap but somewhat reasonable).
In case of an incident like the OP had he would have had the license plate recorded.
I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune but al least it sounds like you are all ok.
