Different states have different rules. What you have been told on the internet won't matter to the state troopers when they search your vehicle. I abide by the "what they don't know won't hurt me" rule and do my best not to give them a reason to ask or look. My rig is free of "Protected by Smith and Wesson" and NRA stickers for that reason.

Well, if there are laws against having a handgun in a motorcoach in a tour of NE states, I sure as heck didn't know it beforehand, and I spent 3 months in the NE and never had any issue or problems. Now, I had initially intended to take the bus into Canada and shelved that idea due to some of the horror stories about stuff on the coach (foods/meat/etc.) going in or coming out of Canada and the fact that we had problems leaving on time due to problems with the pool at the S&B and some other issues, so that was put off for another year. If we had decided to go ahead, then the protection would have been left home.
I have recently gotten lots of advice from Canadian that move back and forth to the states and recent Americans going into Canada..... hand the person in the booth your passport, you insurance proof, and your drivers license and you are probably good.

Per federal laws you can transport a weapon through any state in the union. Notice I said through and each state has its own laws that may say you can’t spend any time, other than going through, in their state transporting a weapon, especially a hand gun.
Having said that I left mine behind last year, because we were spending some time in states that are a pita.

Ya know - - - - I do not have a solid answer. other than check each state's web site about fire arm laws or the web site I listed. Although it has been said on this thread that Federal law says one can transport weapons through all states - - - I have traveled through New York State, a tough hand gun state, and Illinois, same as New York.
When I do travel thorough these states, the weapons are in my motor home safe, although loaded (Probably should be unloaded?). If an AR-15 happens to be in the motor home - the weapon is stashed out of the way and sight, the bolt is in the safe, and there is no ammo. If ever stopped or heaven forbid have a bad accident, i believe I have done all I can do...
I "always" check the web site as far as each state's laws I will be traveling through.
Be safe out there........

Unlike many on this forum, I do stay at the rest areas and truck stops and I've never had a real problem yet (for the past 40+ years). Being aware of your surroundings and be smart is a key to safety regardless of where you are. The criminals lurk where they think they can find an easy target regardless of the neighborhood. If you look like an easy target, you'll soon become one.
Like many, I do have conceal carry in most states and I do have a small arsenal at all times. But keep in mind that the large caliber guns will penetrate several RVs before the bullet stops. For this reason I tend to favor the "Judge" (a pistol that shoots 410 shells) for RV safety. Of course I have others for walking around or a long term battle.
I always hope and pray I don't need a gun for self defense. To me having a gun is like life insurance, I'll only use it one time and I don't look forward to it.
