Saltwater

Settled in at a campground yards from the Atlantic for a month. Beautiful, but am concerned re the adverse affect that mist from the saltwater will have on the rig. Am planning to limit the exposure to the levelers. Also, I put several coats of wax on the rig prior to arrival. Would appreciate any advice from folks with experience dealing with saltwater. Thanks!

The most vulnerable item are the mirrors and key pad handle. The chrome on those do not like salt air, keep them polished. A good wash and spray the undercarriage when you leave.

It can be bad, particularly underneath and chassis metal that hasn't been properly sealed/painted/undercoated.

A worst case happened to me years ago. My restored motorcycle had lots of places where zinc plating had been polished off of old fasteners and brackets. The whole damned nike flashed to rust on a couple weeks.

Salt-Away

You might consider this product: Salt-Away's Coastal Air Applications ...

I've used it to treat the undercarriage after traveling on chemically treated winter highways.

Take care,
Stu

In mid-September of last year (2019), we spent four nights at Beverly Beach Camptown RV Resort in Flagler Beach, Florida. We were in site #63, with our front windshield only a few feet from the seawall and the Atlantic Ocean. I should also mention there had been a significant storm in the general area a day or two before we arrived, so the ocean was pretty rough for most of the time we were there.

The view was great, the site was insanely expensive, and the salt spray was terrible. I hosed down the front of the coach at least once a day and it still looked pretty bad by the time we left.

It was an interesting experience, we met some very nice people, and thoroughly enjoyed the area and our time at the RV park. That said, I would never do it again. (And that's coming from a guy who grew up in a southern California beach town.)

More info on the park here:

We used to live on Pensacola Beach and I can tell you nothing lives on the beach! We had a garage on the first level and cars still would get salt film all over them. Stainless rusts, paint fails and wood rots! I wouldn’t stay long and get a good pressure wash, maybe 2!

I even think Plastic rusts when attacked by salt spray from the gulf.

Door locks had to be replaced every year.

There is a product call corrosion X I had not started using it until this year. I was told that it was the only answer for salt spray.
