Santa Fe to Breckenridge
Hey Everyone, in Amarillo now headed to Santa Fe NM then Breckenridge CO. I am thinking of doing US HWY 285 to CO Hwy 9. Anybody ever done CO Hwy 9 before? I know northbound is the 2nd or 3rd steepest grade in Colorado south of Hoosier Pass. Pretty curvy after or north of Hoosier Pass. I may have wife drive (disconnect Jeep) the Jeep from Alma to Breck to be extra safe and easier.

We did 9 south out of Breck last summer in our little Tiffin gasser pulling our Jeep.
Yes, the north side of the pass is curvy but the road is plenty wide, while the south side is fairly straight. Big pull off area at the top, but I don't recall how many pull offs there were on the grades, but I had no issues pulling over a couple times to let others by. Yes, it will be slow particularly on the north side due to the curves, but it's slow for everyone, and it seemed everyone was patient.
I can't imagine you would have any issues in a large DP, and I would not hesitate to drive it again, in either direction.

Planning to go up thru there in about a month. Recommendations on another forum here said it's better to take 24 from Buena Vista to Leadville then 91 up to I-70, rather than 9 from FairPlay.

I drove CO 9 from Breck to Fairplay last week in my toad. I agree with the others that Buena Vista to Leadville to I70 to Breck would be a better/safer route. The switchbacks on the north side are a little tight for a 45' rig. If you do attempt it, do not tow your jeep.
Regards,
Cory

It should be no real problem hundreds do it everyday including big rig trucks. It is a bit curvy on the north side as mentioned but it is plenty wide. 24 while certainly doable and less curvy is a bit further probably 20 miles and you have to deal with driving through Frisco and a lengthy construction zone on 9 from Frisco to Breck due to last through late 2017

We drove 9 south from Breckinridge towing a Jeep in our 40' Tiffin with an exhaust brake.
I wouldn't hesitate to go either way with our more capable Entegra. Having the 2-Stage engine brake is perfect for those situations.

Just got to Breck. Came in via Hwy 9. Quite easy to be honest. And to boot reset fuel at Alma. From Alma to (almost) Breck I averaged 6.9 MPG. We disconnected the Jeep at Hoosier Pass however later I realized it was not necessary.

Andy, happy to hear that. We will be arriving at Tiger Run on 8/5 for a few days. Hopefully we will get to meet up.
We are in an Aspire with a Black F-150.
Best Regards,

Tiger Run was ok, didn't quite meet my expectations. Got run out of pool because it is only for "owners". Water Pressure was terrible, about 35-40 psi, no biggie as we just filled the coach. Twice someone turned off my water, kinda weird. We were in site 279. We left today and just arrived in Moab UT. Highly suggest taking a ride up in the F-150 to Boreas Pass, all the way up. Had a blast !!!

Sounds like a "nice" neighbor was trying to increase his water pressure by turning yours off. I have also have run into too many low pressure parks and just upgraded the water pump for that reason.
