Shade Motors

We have a 2014 Aspire DEQ, and the front passenger shade motor failed. Jack sent new motors how hard are these to change? Any help would be appreciated.

If you mean the front windshield passenger side shade, then the front window shades are pretty easy to replace because it is fairly easy to get to the screws anchoring the bracket to the ceiling. The one over the door and the ones over the toll window are not easy. Clarify which window and we can give you some more suggestions.

If my memory serves me correctly, the two shades are held up with wood screws with square slots in the head. I remember 4 screws. You may need to have an extension for the screwdriver or electric screwdriver. If you have a partner to help you, the assistant can hold the bracket while you remove the screws.

There have been a couple of threads within the past year that describe the process of removing the motors and also programming the new shade motors. Use the search box at the top of the page and take the default of "iRV2" and enter your search terms and you will find those threads.

Larry

I just replaced my shade motor on the passenger side of my 2012 Aspire. So here are a couple of points:

1. Be sure when you get the new motors they are the red motors
2. The wire connection is behind the passenger side TV, if you have one. If not they might be behind some of the carpet in the storage compartment.
3. There are six screws holding the shade on the ceiling.
4. Either have someone help or, as in my case, I used Brobox's recommendation to get a bungee chord and wrap around the shade as I removed the screws to hold it up. Great recommendation!!!
5. The brown wire is not used but be sure to connect the wires to the same connector as previous. When I connected (spliced in a connector for future repairs) I tested before reinstalling the TV. Glad I did!!! When I did the test the driver side went down while the passenger went up so be sure to test your connection before reinstalling the TV or carpeting.
6. Be sure to use locktite on the screws on the shade (small and easy to strip)
6. Programming is pretty easy, simply press and hold the wire with the button until it beeps twice, lower the shade to where you want it to stop and then release the button. Repeat for the raise height.

All in all pretty simple. Mine took me about 68 minutes but no where near Chuck's record time of 28, I think.

Good luck and PM me if you would like to chat.

Also if you do a search you should find some other recommendations.

Jeff, my time was quick after I learned making the sling trick between the front and side cabinet handles. Instead of tracing wires, I pulled the old wires out of the hole, cut them and spliced in the new shade motor. I also had a good teacher, Bill in FL who has changed over 30 of his shade motors. I think he holds the record for number of motor changes.

Sling man

I have to give credit to my husband Jim for creating the bungee sling for changing the blind motor in our coach because I'm not good at helping him with that kind of job. We love all the tips from this forum, especially Brobox, but this hint came from Hikndog.

Tell Jim I said thank you! I have posted several times trying to give credit to who came up with the idea, now I know. Thank you!! One of the best tips I have received from this forum.

Not bad at all for a fist time installation, you did good. These post are good refreshers. I had a memeber call me a few days ago regarding installing a motor. It's been over a year since I have done one and I forget some of the steps.
