Shattered Driver Side Window (2016 Anthem)

Had a ugly surprise this morning. I heard a loud sound of glass shattering. I ran outside to see if something had happened but there was no body in sight. Walking back in, I heard some additional glass dropping at which point it became apparent that the problem was inside the coach. Raising the day and night shades revealed the problem. On further inspection, it is the inner pane that has shattered and the outer pane is still intact.

The coach has been parked at our current location in Aztec, NM, and was auto leveled about a month ago. I also just checked with a spirit level and the coach is still level.

There is a Magnashade covering the windows on the outside and it is apparent that nothing hit the window from the outside.

So, a big mystery as to how this happened. Glad that it happened while the coach was stationary.

My 19 did the same thing sitting in storage overnight a week before I was to leave for NIRVC for the trade in. It just happens. I have been parked on the same level spot for 19 years with 3 different MH's before the 19 window decided to shatter.

Chuck, thanks for the response. With your years of MHing it appears you have experienced most of the issues by now

Unfortunately, these things happen. The window could have had a bad spot in the glass from debris hitting it while driving or just over time was able to shift into a position that put stress on an area of the glass that allowed the inside pane to shatter. I would clean up the glass and go to homedepot and purchase a roll of floor protectant. This is plastic that is sticky on one side. This will allow for you to cover up the glass and still be able to see out. It will also catch the rest of the window if it decides to give out completely. You can reach out to entegra or any NIRVC parts department to order a replacement window.

Thanks Bobby, this was very helpful. Would this be the floor protectant you are referring to?

Yes sir. Do the lower part of the window and then the top. That will keep anything from running down into the window should something happen to the other pane.

Bobby's idea is better. I used clear packaging tape as that is what I had on hand. It made it from Ft Myers to NIRVC in Atlanta with no problem. My glass didn't fall out, just shattered.

I think Gary Jones might be ahead of Chuck with problem. If not ahead, he just has different ones.

Usually I am able to fix mine and stay out of shops.

Just found some evidence

I've owned my '17 Anthem for a couple months now and while doing a deep clean this weekend I found evidence of some "black tinted" safety glass under the driver's seat! Very interesting!!! Glad it didn't happen while you were driving!

stress fracture

It's likely a stress fracture. The glass has a weak spot and alternating temperatures and humidity stressed it further. One of the segments on my ceiling fixture stress fractured and slowly expanded over weeks and months. I was going to replace it but Entegra told me that the entire fixture has to come down first, so I covered the cracks with awning tape. Unfortunately, it happens.
