Slide ends - to wax or not to wax

On Tiffin the gap between slide ends and frame is much larger than Entegras and many owners say to not wax the slide ends so the seals flip direction when the slide moves. On my 2018 Aspire with much smaller gap I hear the seals squealing as they drag on the slide especially in colder weather. I’m thinking the slide seals will last longer with less friction and drag while the smaller gap makes seal flipping a non-issue. So I’m considering waxing the slide ends.
Any experience that demonstrates best way to go?

I seal my slide ends with Meguires #21 Polymer sealant and keep the slide seals slick with baby powder once a year. I use a feather duster to apply it. (PJ trick) Slides are nice and slick going in and out.

X2....We wax the slide ends and use Aerospace 303 on the slide seals to keep them flexible.

Before I wax the slide ends I make sure there is nothing sticking to it, such as birds Doo Doo, pieces of seal.. Anything. Then I wax it with meguires gold carnuba wax. I then use a brown cotton glove and reach into the wiper seals and as far in as I can with baby powder. I store the powder and glove in press and seal bag. Works great. Have fun RVN

I use Walmart HD Silicone on the rubber slide seals to keep them lubricated to reduce the friction the slide motor must overcome. I also go around to check and help flip the seals by hand while the wife extends/retracts the slide outs. It's always good to monitor the slide out process from the outside also.

Hmmmmmmmmm, never knew anyone worried about their slide seals, which are rubber, and in 3.5 years, managed to slide in and out, and keep the rain and wind out of my coach, just fine, with no help from me at all. I must have been lucky I can see some 303 on the rubber ( although it is really not exposed to the elements and UV much at all, but I don’t see the need to powder my slide rubber.

The only problem I had with seals was that the passenger seal must not have been nailed or glued down very well and started peeling off but I think the problem was that it was never anchored appropriately at the factory. It was fixed during an emergency leak (at another location) trip back to the factory.

I use Lucas Slick Mist on the slide ends after washing them, and will apply 303 or similar product to the seals to help keep them flexible. It only takes a few minutes.

Gary , slide seals can become less flexible with age. It was taught in PJ 's class about keeping them to where they slide easier to avoid them pulling loose due to dragging. His preferred method was baby powder.

Chuck

I would thing that the first time you closed your slides when there was any dampness or moisture in the air (or rain) that all that baby powder would be gone. I would think that either 303 type product or silicone would have a better chance of staying in place much more than something like baby powder.

How have you found that baby powder holds up?

Gary

Thanks for all the great ideas. Now I will have to look for some cotton gloves! I have a can of slide seal conditioner spray and some Meguires polymer sealant so I can start to work!

The baby power has been on for over a year and is holding up fine. I imagine if I brought my slide in wet, it would be time to apply it again, but it's an easy job.
