Slide motor bolts loose
While lurking on the Newmar owners forums I noted quite a bit of activity with issues about slide motors. Seems like the bolts were coming loose and causing some major problems. Figured my new 2015 Aspire has slide motors too so I checked and found that in the two front slides all the bolts were lose, some a half turn, some as much as two full turns.
So I suggest you add motor mount bolts to your inspection list. BTW, anyone know how to get at the motor on the dresser slide on a 44B? It’s the only slide motor I haven’t checked...

Hi John, you aren’t alone as that is a pretty well documented issue on these coaches. Most members are using a dollop of Locktite on the bolts. Our coach had loose bolts, and it was brand new when we got it.
If it helps, you can search more efficiently using the small green box at the top of the website and enter Entegra, then a space, then your keyword.
Regarding your question, there are two access plates within the drive and tag wheel well. The motor is housed behind the forward most plate, likely right above the drive wheels.
Access is tricky, some have removed the wheels, others have carefully jacked the coach up.
I feel removing the wheels may give you a better chance to have working space.
-Matt

Did tightening the bolts help with the slide being "jerky"?
Matt is correct, it takes a contortionist to get to the vanity slide motor. I was able get to mine by raising the coach up and coming in from the back side behind the rear wheels.

It's easy if you do it like I did. Just take it to Middlebury and ask them to tighten the motor screws.

I remember reading that some have removed the "curtain" that spans the drive and tag axle -just unplug the lights and remove 3 screws, if I remember, and you will have more room to work. Unless you have the right tools, removing the wheels is quite a job.

I remember that post after I was sore for 2 days getting to mine. Good reminder and looked easy.

If you're "skinny" enough (or have a friend/volunteer), you might consider the method I used today, which took a total of 20 minutes to complete:
-I laid on my back and slid under the coach, in front of the drive axle. I was able to shimmy up inside the wheel-well, and sit upright.
-I removed the front 2 self-tapping screws on the cover, and bent it down, which revealed the 4 mounting bolts facing me.
-I tightened the bolts, buttoned up the cover, and slid back out.
Kind of a dirty job, but not that difficult/time-consuming. [I was able to accomplish without raising the coach...] Thanks,
BG

I think there might be more room if you raise the jacks and air the coach up. Here is a pic with the skirt off. Another owner posted it a year or two ago. The skirt mounting bolts are circled in the pic

Thanks for posting that Herb, that one is good enough to bookmark and has been done.

FYI. On my 15 Aspire 39E the slide motor is mounted inside the compartment right behind the left rear wheel. There is a removable plate right over the rear tire. After jacking the coach up and removing this plate (only to find empty space) I looked inside this compartment, and there it was. I do not have a tag axle. I found this when I sheared the motor pin. Suggest carrying a 1/4 x 3 Grade 8 bolt as a spare pin. Be sure all the threads on the bolt extend beyond the shaft for additional strength.
