Smoke detectors are on the ceiling and are powered by a 9 volt internal battery only. If they chirp, replace internal battery.

Some CO detectors will detect the presence of LP as well as CO which is probably why they are installed close to the floor, LP being heavier then air. Their real purpose in our Entegras is to warn of the presence of generator exhaust, either yours or your neighbors even though CO is slightly lighter then air.

CO/LP detectors are powered off of your vehicle battery's. No internal backup 9 volt battery. If the vehicle batterys run down over night and gets below something like 11.5 volts (not sure the real value), they will begin to chirp. Run genny to recharge vehicle battery's and the CO/LP detector will stop chirping.

Be safe and don't forget to test these devices periodically.

Ron, good post. I just learned from experience, not that I wanted to The CO detector goes off at 10.5v for low voltage warning. Mine did not chirp, it went off full blast. When my batteries went dead, it went off at midnight. Without the Command 30, 4.0 update, the voltage fell to fast to start the generator. Not a fun learning experience.

FWIW - we were on 50A, no gen's or AH's running for us or the neighbors. Dog way in the back and he's a 7lb Yorkie so that wasn't the issue.

No fuse to pull - just a circuit breaker which wasn't tripped and I have no idea how to reset the ones in the 2017's.

As I said - I have no explanation for the event. After it stopped, it has not reacted again. We'll see tonight

Emerson, my first CO detector did the same thing as yours. The replaced one has been fine. Brings up a good point.....can you turn off the circuit breaker on a 17? I pulled the fuse on mine until the new one arrived.

I thought they put a normal fuse in for that curcuit so it could be disabled in the 2017.

I couldn't find one and there was a circuit breaker.

Good news is it hasn't happened again.

The bad news is....they always go off in the middle of the night for no reason.
