Spartan

WoW.... so, I’m at Spartan getting warranty work done, and The chassis check,,,, I’ve been told it’s a great experience and their really thorough and good. And maybe they will be, but in the conversation I said “ if you don’t mind while you have it in Bring the tire pressure up to par and gave them the pressure I need,,,, well, that’s $65 [emoji15] nope i’ll do it myself I just thought while it was in there and you have air hoses all around you but never mind, they found a bit of corrosion on the battery post on my chassis battery $135.00 nope I’ll do that myself.... $235.00 for a air filter [emoji15]... she said “ but that includes the labor’ WoW

Spartan service is excellent but it is pricey. We had our annual done here in the Buffalo area and it was about half of what I spent at Spartan last year.

Forget the "nickel and dimeing you to death", they will "dollar bill you to death" if you are not careful.
Prior to our scheduled visit in September, I will be comparing some costs for services being done with my local Spartan authorized shop (Mainline Truck & Trailer Repair 440.439.777 Bedford Ohio) and dependent upon the answer may have them completed there first. I had an introductory visit to this shop but to date, I haven't needed them for any repair or service. I know I need my lower ball joints checked, as a seal may have been blown so that will be my first estimate.

Please keep me in the loop on that, I’m just south of Canton Ohio and I’m definitely looking for an alternative, won’t be back here.

They ARE a good service center. We have an appointment Friday to service the chassis and generator.

They actually have a sense of humor there also.

There are cheaper places but none that have the know-how and familiarity with the chassis that Spartan has. I always worried that other shops would miss things like lube points and adjustment specs, so I pay the extra and have Spartan do it. It costs me money but I sleep better that way.

Ken,

Please keep us in the loop, I'm 10 minutes away from Mainline and will definitely use them based on your response. I went and visited them last summer to say hello and I did get a good "vibe" after speaking to them, maybe I'll cancel my Charlotte visit and stay a few extra nights in Petoskey Mi. I'll PM you with my E-mail.

I think the best bang for your buck, is to attend the week long Chassis Class they offer for RV owners. Learning the proper way to inflate your tires is included.

Cheers!!

yeah it was really tough but I can air my own tire up, I just thought as a courtesy with air hoses hanging all over the place they can put a few pounds of air in a tire... they have discontinued the RV owners class due to the virus. I went to it in Texas, would go again after this craziness stops. But, it never hurts to have an alternative or to save money.

I agree, putting air in your tires should be a courtesy.

My Anthem threw a cel code with ~8,000 miles on it. Without reading the code (not sure how I would with no obd2 port) I scheduled an appointment with my local Freightliner/Spartan service center. They had it for three days, drained the batteries down to zero because the shut off the auto gen and found the issue was bad fuel filters. The bill? $800+. I bitched and money to no avail.

For a comparative I just had my 30k service done by a great shop across the river. Air filter oil filter, fluids, etc etc. everything in the maintenance check list. Bill? $1,000. And they aired up my tires without being asked! Lesson learned.

In my recent visit to NIRVC Dallas I paid for an engine/chassis maintenance along with an HVAC service and a few miscellaneous repairs. They performed a full 4 corner weight check and set my pressures as per the Michelin chart at NO CHARGE.

With my 3 years coming up I just scheduled a full chassis check at Spartan in Michigan for $145 before the warranty runs out.

The first date I could get was 10/20/20. I would hope that any issues found will be covered, although things like dirty battery connections sounds like normal owner maintenance not warranty items.
