Speaking about DEF and EPA Standards ....

May or may not be an interesting read:

Today's diesel engines are completely clean. Sulfur is taken out of the fuel at the refinery. Nitrous oxides are removed with DEF injection. Particulates are removed by filters. Volatiles are eliminated by precise computer control of the combustion process. The only thing that comes out of the exhaust pipe is harmless carbon dioxide and water vapor. The news article is correct.

Here's another school bus fact. From a conversation with the service manager at Cummins Ft Myers who does the engine maintenance for Lee County School Board's buses. The School Board has a new fleet of Bluebird school buses that are also down from Shaw DEF sensors. Shaw Development will also not communicate with the school board to purchase replacements.

From the article maybe it's the Biden admiistration stopping the production of diesel parts. It's a good reason as any why our DEF sensors don't work and might be the reason the NHTSA is not moving forward with the complaints that have been filed.

At least the article brought out 2 very important points
1. New busses - post 2007 are 99 % clean - how much to spend for the 1 %
2. A rush to manufacture new busses from over seas.

Now what it did not address:
1. Where is the additional electricity going to come from?
2. Is the new electricity generated from a clean source?
3. Nobody that is promoting Electric vehicles has addressed the actual carbon foot print needed to produce this green vehicle or dispose of it.

And yet we seem to be having it shoved down our pocket books willingly.

Follow the money that will flow to those implementing electrified vehicles. The infrastructure cost of charging stations, the construction costs for more capable power distribution, etc.

I just hope the clean DEF system will be made to work before they hang us out to dry with the "Green New Deal" method of propulsion. There are 2021 coach that cannot move due to DEF sensor, lets get that fixed first!

What was the first chassis/engine model year on which DEF was required and what was the first model year that started having the current problems?

If, as has been stated either here or elsewhere, the EPA would be giddy if we all gave up our diesels, they are being wrongheaded and shortsighted. Modern Diesel engines practically clean the air they ingest. They should want more diesels, not fewer.

DEF initially required on 2010 model year. 2016 model year required the addition of DEF quality sensor, that's when the fun started.

Later...

Which is why CLIFTALL warned everyone to stay away from that subject and get back on the issue at hand.
