Generator service...... Our generations are similar to refer units on refrigerated trailers so Speedco is use to them. However most Speedcos do not know where the air and fuel filters are located on our generators...have your diagram handy and the tips to change them that have been posted on this forum.

I had a call last week from a forum member that Speedco could not get the fuel filter off, I didn't remember either. Have the print out with you if you want the filter changed.

Sounds like Speedco doesn't have bad prices.

I still do my own. Engine oil, filter, 2 fuel filters and 1 1/2 grease tubs cost me $119.21.
Generator Synthetic oil and oil filter $34.88
So my time is worth around $234 saved.

At $20/Gal X 7 Gal for an ISL9, the Valvoline 8600 Dino oil alone is $140ish.

Figure around $35 for a Fleetguard oil filter and you're close to $200 including taxes.

The fuel filters are around $50-60 plus the effort.

The ISL9 DIY PM service is at $250 before you grease it.

Just IMHO, i would never let them pre-fill a fuel filter. These common rail high pressure ful systems should never have the filter pre-filled, tolerances are too tight.

Big Mike at Spartan recommends sticking with Fleetguard for all engine filters as long as your engine is still under warranty to avoid any potential for finger pointing in the event of an issue. fwiw...

I like doing it myself. It's not that I don't trust them, I just don't trust them. :-)

I would be willing to pay them to grease my chassis because I hat that job with a passion. I doubt if you could go there just for a chassis lube.

Now that would give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Kinda reminds me of some prior posts on this and other forums about stuff like this reportedly being done at CW or some of the quick lube joints.

Speedco

Why would you trust them to properly grease all zerks My opinion, that is the most like place for them to do a poor job, miss zerks, quit on hard greasing zerks or get the gun crooked and squirt grease out the side instead of in the bearing/shaft. All JMHO

They check, and then the crew boss double checks, and I hand them a diagram of the zerks that need done.................... and I really hate moving myself under the coach to do that job with a grease gun or a pneumatic grease gun..... hate ...... hate....... hate...... YRMV

Most of there work is on semis. I'll bet most on the forum, me included could not tell anyone how to change the fuel filter on an Onan 12.5 KW with out the printout in front of me. It's not hard once you have done it, but Speedco is not in the habit of servicing MH generators. Changing the oil and filter, no problem for them, they do refers everyday which is almost the same.

Great procedure, I will dig out a chart and take it with me. Have not used them on this coach but thinking about starting. Cheaper and appear to have a good system in place. Thanks for sharing.

I just had my annual service done by Cummins on both the engine and the generator. In addition to all expected filters and lube they changed the air filter. I paid $1,685.00 Canadian. I know our dollar is not doing so well but I think that is a bit high?
