Dip in Oil Could Signal Low Summer Pump Prices
Print Print
June 16, 2017 by Dave Barbulesco Leave a Comment
Oil prices continue to lag despite efforts by supply-giants Saudi Arabia and Russia to reduce a stubborn glut in world supplies. According to Business Report, that’s good news for U.S. drivers looking for affordable gas prices this summer – but not so great for oil companies who rely on robust prices to boost profits.
“If oil prices remain below $50 a barrel, as they are currently, that will keep gasoline prices low,” said Pavel Molchanov, an energy analyst at the investment firm Raymond James. “Our team’s forecast is for oil prices to recover, not tomorrow or next week, but over the next six to 12 months.”
For now, however, prices have hit a lull, falling nearly 10% since the last Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries in late May. Another steep drop came Wednesday after two new oil market reports, one showing tepid gasoline demand in the United States and the other showing an increase rather than a cut in OPEC output.
The federal Energy Information Administration on Wednesday said that U.S. gasoline stockpiles rose by 2.1 million barrels to 242 million barrels. For the second week, gasoline demand was weak, disappointing many analysts and traders who had been looking for a rebound. The price benchmarks for crude oil fell sharply after the report’s release.

Thanks for the update.
Funny though how the price goes up a nickle at a time as you're driving by on the LED signs.
Goes down a penny or two over the next month or two...
Be well

Well there goes any vacancies at RV parks if reservations have not been way in advance. I might be coming home real earlier this year. Cheap fuel and no place to stay. DW is not a Walmart Camper.

Predicting (a.k.a. guessing!) is almost as impossible to predict the winning lottery numbers! All it takes is for one of the OPEC nation leaders to fart, the rest of them think he has indigestion about their price structure, and the oil prices go up $10/barrel

Just returned from an 75-day 8500 mile cross country trip. Best diesel price I found was at the Buc-ees in Ft. Worth in early April. $1.98/gallon.

Their DEF was just $2.50/gal at the pump.

Crossed the continental divide from the West to the East in Montana. Price per gallon dropped from 2.69-2.79/gal to 2.24-2.27/gal in SD and Iowa. Back up to 2.59 in IN and 2.79 in NY. Most of these prices are within 100 miles of a refinery, so transportation costs suggest it is only an excuse. Mainline stations (Pilot, Loves, TA, FJ) all appear to average 0.25 to .45/gal artificially higher. My personal view - disgusting:(

Taxes in the different states definitely affect the prices. NY has a very high gas tax. Here in jersey our gas price per gallon was 50-70 cents a gallon less than NY, until our governor tacked on a 23 cent tax increase earlier this year. Still cheaper than NY. 2.25 a gallon currently.
