State Parks that are good for 45' big rigs

I commented on another thread about largely abandoning the use of state parks due to problems with length, tree limbs for tall rigs, etc. We almost always avoid them if we dont have personal recommendations from someone that a specific park is a good bet. That made me think that there do have to be some state parks that are excellent possibilities for rigs the size of most of our rigs.

I'd appreciate knowing of state parks that you have found are very appropriate for 45' big rigs with good sized sites and either full or partial hook ups. Are there any parks you recommend based on your experience?

Cool

Cherry Creek State Park in Denver can handle 45 footers with no problems. Need reservations way ahead of time, but a good place to stay if going to Denver.

Most state parks and Corp parks in Texas can handle 45' rigs. Just all the park and make sure.

I was a volunteer in Custer State Park in SD. Most of their campgrounds will accommodate a 45 foot rig but their are only a few sites in each campground. You definitely need reservations. They have electric only but there is one dump station in the park and water available in each campground.

Not a State Park, but a city park, Walnut Creek Lake & RV Park in Papillion, NE, a suburb of Omaha is a very nice park. It can accommodate big rigs, but again in only a few spaces. It is electric only with a dump station in the park and water available. They don’t take reservations and is first come first serve. Get there on a weekday or you won’t find even a tent site.

Jonathan Dickinson State park, Jupiter FL.

Also the state of Colorado is putting their Lottery profits into all of the camp grounds state wide. Many of the parks I went to when I lived there have been redone with pull throughs, paved, etc. I was impressed.

Let me add one of my own. I have twice stayed for about a week at Lake Erie State park which is actually in New York state and is right off the thruway near Van Buren Point and Fredonia. Also cheap Native American reservation diesel about 20 miles north, but watch for low bridges that you should not try to get under if you are driving any of the diesel pushers. The park was basic (grass, 50A electric, dump station, and potable water too far away from your coach to make a water connection). But reasonable and for short stays, good option.

Top Sail Hill Preserve State Park near Destin, Florida has several sites that can take a 45ft rig. Topsail actually has full hookups. We stay there to visit our son and daughter in law. However - reservations are hard to get. Also Gulf Shores State Park in Gulf Shores, Alabama can too.

Henderson Beach State Park in Destin, FL can easily handle our rigs. They don’t have full hookups but 50 amp and water. Very nice park with large sites with lots of privacy between sites. As with Topsail State Park, reserve early. Not easy to get in.

Watch the roads in and out of Custer State Park. One of them has a narrow tunnel that you won't fit through.

Actually you have about 6" on each side.

I just watched that vid. Not every driver of that bus is as good as that guy. There are some "marks" of love down each side.
