Steer tires

Hello, I have a 2015 Aspire with Goodyear tires. I don't know why the factory can put those bad tires on their coachs. Mine had 24K on them & they are wore out!! I took it to Henderson in Grants Pass Or & found out the coach was toed way out. I tried to show this to Entegra but they wouldn't stand by their warrentys. I put new Michelin 295s on the front with new Kona shocks what a difference. I also tried to put the same size on the rears but found out the drivers would touch each other by .1 of an inch. Since I carry a spare tire on our flat bed trailer I wanted one size all the way around. So I carry one of the bad Goodyear as a spare off the front & can switch tires around if I have a flat on anything but the front. Just saying we pay all this money & get junk put on the coach by the factory & they know it but wouldn't do anything about it. Look at the video of the woman driving that had a blow out on a Goodyear tire & totaled their coach. Enough said!!!

All makes of tires have blow-outs. Some more than others. However, it is not the tire's fault if the front end alignment is way out of whack. That is on the owner or the manufacturer, but a thousand miles after purchase, the owner should know there is a problem and catch it while still under warranty.

Now, whether the Goodyear 670s are a failed product will likely be determined in a court of law. Until that time, if I had them on my coach, I would be replacing them with a tire that has a better track record.

This whatI was told by the tire dealer (Pro Tire), in previous coach install he noticed a significant weight difference between goodyears and michelins. So he weighed them and verified that goodyears were 50lbs lighter. His take was that gys are poory constructed. He also recommended running uniroyals on the rear of the coach and that the are ~$350 per tire

You’ve made these same claims in other posts. You have a 4 to 5 year old coach, what warranty isn’t being honored?

Our '13 Aspire had 315's in front, but that was after a recall which also changed the wheel size. Note that it was an Aspire IFS.

Just 2 or so PSI difference will throw a lot of weight around when you adjust tag axle pressure (not tire pressure). I would suggest that ANY time you adjust tag axle pressure, you do so ONLY when the steer axle IS ON A SCALE.

My experience.
An Entegra Anthem on a scale and fully dumping the tag axle with the cockpit switch produced a decrease of 1000lbs on the front axle weight. Thought dumping the tag would produce a greater weight decrease on the front but not so.

Entegra has always stood behind alignments in the first 5,000 miles. However you do have to make it known. There is no way Entegra can tell if an owner knocked the front end out of alignment 4 years and 25,000 miles later. I get my front end aligned every 2 years, out of pocket. I see tire wear, it goes in for alignment.

Entegra does include Michelin tires on the new Aspires, but the purchase price is about $30,000, or more, higher now.

In the first 2 years my coach saw 4 front end shops....not Entegra's fault but the manufacture of the front end and the company that installed it.. It was all handled while under warranty.

Steer tire sizes

Using suggestions from this forum, I drove the short distance to Pro Tire. Kind of place I probably would not have gone into without the recommendations. They were ready for me, mounted my new Michelin X Coach HL steer tires and I was on my way in under an hour. These guys know their stuff.

The date code was 1317, so the tires are already a year old. Pat explained that these tires are only made once a year, in Europe, and that the 2018 production line has not started yet. So that was the best date code I, or anyone, could get. I was charged the FMCA price and $50 per tire for removal/mounting/balancing.

The tires rode well on the way home although it is too early to give a real evaluation. I’m sure I will be happier than having the G670s I replaced.

John:

Congratulations on the new Michelin tires. Looks like you are two for two on selecting competent dealers.

John, On my 15 Aspire I was able to reduce my front air pressure to 115 psi (front axel weight 15080lbs). You referenced earlier that yours was 14k something. I think the chart says you can run lower

Right. Mine works out to 110PSI for the fronts. Based on actual measured weight per wheel and the appropriate Michelin chart.

One added note, I though I had 295/80 G670 all around but Pat pointed out we had 275/80 G670 in the rear, and that was a good thing. It is the only G670 which has an actual truck tread pattern and construction and he said it did not have the problems for which the G670 is so famous.

What was the price on FMCA Michelin Tires for the Front Axle ( 295's )?
Just checking to see if joining FMCA would make another good reason.
Thanks

The FMCA price on the 295/80R22.5 Michelin X Coach HL including tires, FET and local taxes was $1,588. Plus $100 to Pro Tire for mounting, balancing and so on. So $1,688 total out the door for both front tires.
