Step and dash issue

2014 Aspire 44B

So the mechanic at the truck shop noticed today that our step will not extend when house batteries are off, the other problem he noticed, is when house batteries are off the seats won’t move. But turn the house batteries on and everything functions as it should. Any idea why this would be happening? Also I’d there supposed to be a USB hookup for the radio on this model? I can’t find it. Looked in drawer in dash and all I see is RCA fabled in there.

Oh and the transmission panel starts acting weird when the house batteries are off. Like it’s shorting out.

When was your 14 manufactured? They did $3,800 of upgrades starting mid year, July I believe. We waited ordering ours for the upgrades. The dash radio might have been one of the upgrades. Mine did have a USB port for playing a recorded thumb drive. I don't remember now where it was, but it was not hidden.

I’m not clear as to how you are turning off the house batteries.
You talking about the “salesman switch” at the door?
If so, yes, that switch controls some things that are not on your half bath control board. Bath fans, chairs, etc. may/will be effected.
No need to ever turn that switch off unless you need a reset or are going to be working on something.

I don’t have a USB in ours either. But have not needed one. It will BT. We stream radio from our phone while driving. And have power strips or adaptors that charge our usb devices. Our classics have a few inverted outlets scattered around the coach to keep things charged whilst driving. One is at the passenger seat, under the kitchen cabinets, and bedroom that I know of.

One option that I am considering is to replace the head unit with an inexpensive one that will allow more updated technology. Many owners have.

The usb may be behind the radio and you need install a cable that goes there. As far as the battery issue, they may have the seats and step wired to the house batteries. That way you can control the seats and steps with the engine off.

At least on my ‘14, that is how we are wired. Seats are powered with ignition off but pretty sure if I kill the 12v at the door, it will kill most everything not 110 or in our G5 panel.

I have two battery switches for the house batteries inside the first basement door on the passenger side. I’m referring to those

House battery switched in the 1st basement compartment on passenger side. That’s the switched I’m referring to.

I had a late 14 and there were no battery switches in that compartment, only the salesman switch inside of the door. Chassis battery switches are in the last compartment on the passenger side.

There will be an Entegra Sticker behind the driver seat on the back of the switch console. You will need to get on the floor to see it. On that sticker will be the date the coach was manufactured. Also there will be a sticker somewhere in the coach, mine was inside the bathroom fuse door. That one will be from where the coach was painted, with the colors and the date the coach was painted. That date will be one month from completion, close enough for the finish date. If it is one of the early 14's many of your features will be that of a 13. There were many changes enough that Entegra charged an additional $3,800 upcharge for the later 14's. It is starting to sound like your might me an earlier 14. My USB port was in plan sight. Mine did not work and the radio/nav head was replaced. Also the house battery switch location.

What Chuck said. Might have been a factory install but I don’t have those. Only the chassis switch. And that is not going to fully shut down anything either.
Might call EC and give them your vin#.
They might be able to shed some more light.

Tom, I was thinking after I made my post....we are getting into a lot of second and third owners of Classics. It's hard to say what a previous owner has done and the new owners might think it's factory.
A number shorter than the VIN for calling Entegra is the coach number found on the yellow sticker on the inside of the screen door. It's only 8 digits.

Chuck, I think back to how we started.

Never owned an RV in my life. Did research, eliminated styles/classes to arrive to a handful of choices. Toured the factories of the final two(EC and Newmar), frequented RV shows and dealers, sat in more floor plans than I can remember, but it all started here on this forum.
Some of the folks that had coaches and posted have drifted away over time, but there is an ever evolving rotation of great input. The knowledge pool is phenomenal.
I don’t know as much as I should, but try. Knowing how, and what makes your coach tick is an ongoing education.
Glad to see new owners of classics frequenting the forum. Benefits all and keeps this forum viable.
