Step motor replacement help
Does anyone know how to get the old motor out? I can’t get the motor to free itself from the step arms and I certainly don’t want to destroy the stairs…

Without having worked on that kind of motor assy before, I'd have to go with I perceive as the obvious. 2 bolts circled in red.

I think Harry is probably correct. The black section of the "motor" is actually a gearing assembly and the reddish tubular section to the right in your picture is the actual motor itself. You likely only need to replace the motor and not the gearing assembly.

That is a different step assembly than I have seen. Those were not even used on the Travel Supreme. Do you know the make of the steps? Removing the bolts is probably correct, it would be interesting to see if those steps and instructions could be found online.

There might be a third bolt that isn't shown. I would definitely remove those bolts.

I would suggest driving the two keeper pins out. Then slide is left and right to pull it out of the tubes.
See the two holes in this one that is for sale.

Good eye on the research of that motor Jeanne.

This is the replacement motor and unfortunately, the gears are stripped out and why I’m replacing it. I believe the “silver” arms are supposed to slide inside the “black” tubes of the steps, I just wanted to verify that was accurate before I get the heat out and bigger hammer.
There are two bolts on either side of the tubes but I don’t know what the threaded rod is attached to as the one side spins with the nut and the other is going to need a breaker bar to loosen.
I’m going to call Entegra today and see if they have any paperwork in the archives for this step. I really don’t want to invest in a new set of stairs if I can help it. These have metal EC insignias on the steps themselves and I think they look better than the new plain ones.

It doesn't look to me like the black tubes spin. I wish I could zoom in better but where the tubes go through that bracket I would expect to see marks. I am wondering if the silver ends connect to something inside the black tube?

It almost looks like the tubes are "dimpled" where the holes in the drive shaft are.
also, what keeps the motor from spinning when it changes direction?
