Steps

Posting for a friend with a brand new 2014 Cornerstone. They currently have the coach parked in our field. Drivers side front wheel is slightly lower than rest, due to being in a depression. After closing the door the steps retracted and a clicking or tapping sound could be heard. After about 2-3 minutes the sound slowed down and finally quit. Is there a weight or something that assists the steps,that could be making this sound? They had some problems with the steps "sticking", but this was supposed to have been resolved at the dealers when a list of things were done. The steps do go in and out fine. Thanks to anyone who sends an idea.

It sounds like the motor gear box for the steps. They are just plastic gears and it doesn't take much of a resistance on the steps to break the gears.

Yeah, if you happen to step on them when they are coming out or retracting, can cause the gears to be damaged. I don't know what else the noise could be.

Those step actuators on the steps are high failure items. It might be the actuator. I had one fail in the first 6 mos on my coach, using it part time only! You can find them online or search the old threads on IRV2 because they use an inexpensive electric window motor (less than $40).
