Stink Bug Killer

I have tried quite a few tricks to kill stink bugs. Spraying them with dish detergent, a light over a pan of water and even a bug spray. I get them really bad and this year the spring is as bad as the fall. I purchased a Bug Zapper for 44.00 (Hoont). I think any similar one would work. I put it in the coach shut the shades and the following morning had about 25 dead bugs and a few live ones on the outside. Left it all day and all night, got about another 30 or so. I took it out of the coach and ran it for a week in the rv building. Must had killed a few hundred of them. I took the coach on a trip last week and have not seen a single stink bug except a two dead ones. I am a believe in this type of bug zapper. It is the rectangular type with two bulbs, has a disposal tray on the bottom. This thing has made me a believer.

You are a lucky man if you got them all..... We ran into stink bugs (I think also called Shield Bugs) for the first time whole parked near State College, PA for the six games of the Penn State Football home season, and we had those buggers hatching out for a full year after we got them. Then, even after maybe 6 additional months, we have had one or two crawl out of where-ever they hatch and we killed them by hand. Those buggers are a hard infestation to conquer.

Gary,

The northeast is infected with them. This is truly the first time I found something that works. It was one of those let's try efforts. If you have been to Pa you got them.

Do you have a brand name or link for the zapper?

Thanks for the tip. We picked them up on our trip to the Northeast last summer/fall. They were the worst when we rolled through Michigan. We were killing them for about six months afterward. Will give one of these zappers a try this summer.

I have a night light in my garage and a spider lives near it. It's a machine on killing anything in the garage. All I see is a pile of carcasses.

Love the idea, especially with the gnats, but a little concerned about how we could use it while we are traveling. It looks fairly small but counter space is such a premium. Does it make that electrical zapping noise every time it gets a bug? Might freak the dogs a little. We have one that panics with any loud noises - and rain (sigh). She’s sure that thunder has to be next.

We’ve been using a similar model for years in “buggy” areas. We hang it from the cabinet above the steering wheel (when parked) so it’s out of the way. Yes, it “Zaps” when a bug hits it. Also, it will set off your alarm when it zaps if you leave it on when you lock your coach with the fob or keypad.

It does really make a loud crack when it gets them. I had put it in the coach overnight when we are not in it. It did not set off my alarm, but I have mine turned down. A note, it retains a charge about three minutes after it is turned off. Don't ask me how I know. I have not had to use it in the coach now but hooked it up in the RV building. I have only seen an occasional bug. I will be ready for them in fall when they return.

When doing the stink bugs in the coach, did you have it on the floor? Mine arrived the other day.

Linda our dog also hates bug zappers, she takes off at the sight of the tennis racket type when I get it out.

Yes, I put it in the front of the coach between the seats. I also closed the shades and left all lights off except the Zapper.

Thanks for the tip. I might try it next time we have an invasion. They usually show up after the fall on a warm day.
