Storage for 10 Day Trip

Planning to leave coach in storage while we take a 10 day trip. CG will charge $10 per day for storage yard. Want to keep refrige running and batteries charged. Thinking about leaving it there with gen set on auto and most everything shut down. No power available unless we keep it on a full hook up site.

Anybody tried to do this? Suggestion?

Storage for 10 Day Trip

There is no power where we store ours. I use the AGS to keep the Batteries charged. It works fine, but runs about 3 hours per week and that is without running the refer which will surely cause yours to run much more hours. Suggest you park it with A full tank of fuel.

You may find the CG will charge you less than full site rental if you want to plug in but not "live" in coach. I recently did that in Chas. SC where they charged me half price for a 30 amp site because we were not "camping" -just parked there plugged in.

I'd sure like to make sure my AGS is working correctly. Classics had lots of problems with their AGSes either not being programmed correctly, or even the programming internal to the AGS.

I would have a hard time believing the system is going to work flawlessly in my absence. I would simulate it all days ahead of time by shutting down and setting it the way we want it to work and then watching to see if it actually works that way.

I would give a lot of thought about having a trusted buddy of mine visit my coach daily or every 2 days and verify status of the coach and battery banks. A refrig of rotting food would scare the heck out of me.

I agree with Gary. The AGS is not dependable enough for me to trust it for 10 days. As Gary said, I would need someone checking it every couple days or I wouldn't get any sleep.

I'd opt for a site with shore power, even though more expensive.

This is where solar comes in handy. I installed on previous and current coach. Can leave the coach at a service shop, storage, etc. without worrying of batteries being damaged or coach without power.

Shut off everything. Turn on the disconnect switches. The batteries should last ten days.

You will need to stay a lot more times to get the average Correct - I've stayed 100's of nights and Never had that issue, at least that I can remember

But if it were to happen just - Move - easy enough

Update

Well we decided to go ahead and leave the coach in storage and depend on the auto gen. We have someone checking generator usage and batteries while we are gone. Diesel tank is full. Shut off all circuits besides refrige. Will report how it works.

I'm thinking $10/day x 10 days = $100 is a cheap cost vs a possible AGS failure, maybe a fire, or dead batteries.

I am assuming the op has a residential style fridge. This is certainly a situation where the propane rv fridge would have solved the problem. With just the fridge on, the tank of propane would last months and months. Maybe it might be cheaper, but probably not easier to just empty the fridge. This way you can just shut everything down and not worry.
