Surge protector
New to this site, currently own 03 Monaco Camelot. Very interested in a new Aspire; 42 DEQ. Curious, are the new Entegra coaches hard wired with a surge protector ? In reading the comments, owners as a whole, are extremely happy with their respective coaches as well with CS...thank you.. ddgilmore

The coach has a surge protector - at least the Anthem does - however it isn't a low voltage detector. In the material you get from Entegra, an aftermarket device is recommended. We added one that is discussed in another thread here and it tests the quality of the power. Not as good as a voltmeter of course but since low voltage can be as bad as as spike, it's a good investment.

Thank you for your quick response, SD. Did you have the surge protector hard wired? If so, do you have a personal preference in a device? Tnx. ddgilmore

We have a hard wired surge protector on our Anthem. It's a Progressive H50.

Did it come that way from the factory - standard - optional - or you added it post purchase?

This seems to be the most highly regarded:
http://www.progressiveindustries.net/ems_hw50c.htm
It's also available in a portable version.

Up through 2013, and I am assuming 2014, Entegra uses a TRC Transfer Switch 41260. The transfer switch provides surge protection, but as Emerson points out, it does not provide full protection. Most Entegra owners have either had a Progressive EMS system hardwired (EMS-HW50C) into their unit, or use, as I do, the portable version of the same (EMS-PT50C) that hangs from the post.

So that then answers a part of OPs question. Like many other owners including me and my Bounder - Entegra owners add an EMS and Progressive industries is preferred. Do Entegra owners also add Power Master Voltage Controllers or Hughes Autoformers? I am very much interested in the Entegra line and how their owners roll. I was hoping that Entegra went the extra mile and came with the $350 EMS installed. Thanks!

I guess every manufacturer makes trades on where they put their money. So many of us have ask the question ... why the particular TRC unit without the addition of the EMS to provide full protection. I have had that discussion with their Chief Engineer in CS. I have not got a satisfactory answer. The next TRC model (41290; a later model) offers full protection in addition to the transfer switch functions. I hear it costs $14K compared to the $4k of the 41260. Still, you have to add EMS. I have heard of no one installing the other systems you ask of (Power Master and Hughes).
Why Entegra would succumb to offering the silly upgrade in navigation systems based upon customer outcry about an adequate EXite System (at about $300) and continue to pass on providing adequate power protection...this is one of the few things about a great coach and, overall, a good company to respond to customer "asks" that just bewilders me. I guess I just don't understand the cost equation. JMHO

We went with the hard-wired version. I like the display which is probably also on the portable version somewhere. Some folks worry about having the portable version exposed for theft which I really wouldn't be concerned about. I am just too lazy so I like just plugging in and go.
The model quoted above is the one we have (EMS-HW50C). It was installed by our dealer with delivery for no charge bu we paid for the device (Lazy Days).

DSL417 - I am surprised as well. They seem to cover so many bases well - and the SP is such an obvious addition. It's one of the first things most of us learn about and then go get. And while it's not difficult to add the remote it would be a lot easier to do at factory - include it in the panel and maybe a second in bedroom closet or fuse panel.

The Entegra comes with a built in surge protector. The Progressive H50 is an Emergency Management System (EMS), which is highly recommended. The EMS will protect so much more than just a surge protector and you were smart to add that.
I have the Progressive H50 in my TS and it has saved my bacon more than once. At one of our stops a neighbor lost all of his TV's and his refrig from a lightning strike in the park, I lost nothing.

It comes from the factory with the TRC. We added the progressive HW50. Actually, transferred it from the previous mh. The progressive has a lifetime warranty. Noel
