You will get 50/50 reply s on which model, hardwired or portable. Both have there good points. I chose the hardwired because it's once and forget it, we move around a lot and didn't want to keep plugging in a portable especially if it was raining, I'd let it go and wouldn't stand there to put plastic bags on it.
The hardwired if it goes down is a plug and play board that is replaced at no cost sent Priory Mail and the surge side still works when bypassed. Also there is never a problem with water intrusion in the HW model. Install time 2-3 hours

The portable has to be sent in with a shipping cost in the $30. range and sometimes a 2 week turn around. The way we travel, I don't know where I am going to be in 2 weeks. So that left me with the hardwired choice. Install time, 30 seconds over and over.

Neither one is a bad model, just how the user is going to use it. The important thing is to have one.

I am not confident in my ability to hardwire anything, so I just purchased a portable unit. This is the newest for RVs. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N9...peL&ref=plSrch

Progressive HW-50C unit for me, and I LOVE it. Have the LED read out module mounted in the AquaHot compartment so that I can turn on the power at the park pole, stroll over to the LED display to show if there are any errors, the voltage and amperage on each of the two legs, etc. Could not be a better installation. Currently available for ~ $300.

Installed it myself and took maybe 2 hours and a trip to Lowes.

Progressive full EMS for sure. Hardwire vs. Portable - both provide the same protection functionality. A compromise is to modify the shore power cable so as the portable unit is mounted inside the power bay area.

This is the one I bought and installed myself. Takes 2-3 hours. I mounted mine on the wall between the AH and the wet bay. I had to move my cable reel over a little.

Hard wired progressive industries here, I mounted it behind the reel as there is plenty of otherwise wasted space back there.

I mounted my Progressive HW on the wall as well. After 10 years, the board died and had to be replaced. With the wall mount there was not enough room to remove the board, I changed it to a floor mount since it had to be removed anyway to unplug the board.

Limited lifetime warranty.
Protects against spikes (All do that) Low and high voltage (not all do that) and freqency. Protects against accidently plugging in via an adapter to 240 volts.. Protects against open neutral or ground. on a 50 amp pedistal. The remote also reports volts and amps each leg.

If I have a hard wired protector and should I have a problem with no power in the coach, how difficult is it to isolate or bypass the protector to prove it's not the culprit?
I'm looking at the Progressive hard wired and this is an important consideration for me. Obviously this is not a concern with a portable.

Thanks

Pat
