Survey: How many can turn off ACC completely from the joystick?
I just returned from Spartan and one of the issues that I had them work on while there was the failures of my Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation System (CMS), and RADAR. I have had troubles with these systems since I picked up the coach at NIRVC end of May 2018. Those of you who read these forums know that I REALLY HATE adaptive cruise control. I want to set the speed at 68, lets say, on an interstate and my job, along with driving safely, is to move from lane to lane safely to maintain that speed, if at all possible (and this X-50 605 hp Cummins engine will do an amazing job of holding that speed on almost all conditions!!!!!!!). With ACC, I am hostage to what the hell the guy 300-700 feet in front of me is deciding to do, and a lot of the time, that driver is doing something that is impossible to understand. Anyhow, I have screamed my dislike about ACC to the "Powers That Be" since the day I first drove my coach.
Now, an interesting question has come up....... If you have ACC, can you turn your ACC off? On the dash, you get a choice of essentially "long", medium, and short, as the distance you want to slavishly follow the guy in front of you. Can you turn your joystick counterclockwise from long and get an option called something like "ACC Defeated"? Can you get the same option if you pass "short" going clockwise with the joystick also? If you pick that defeated option, ACC is turned off, regular old fashioned cruise control still operates, and CMS continues to operate.
I have come across some information that makes me wonder about all of this....

Gary, you need to come out of your shell and tell us how you really feel about Adaptive Cruise Control and the Collision Mitigation System.

The moderators won't print what I really think about the ACC/CMS system.... I'm giving you just what I think they will print.... I learned the words I'd like to use back when I worked in Pennsylvania steel mills for four summers back in the 60s.
Now, literally just got off the phone from my friend at Spartan, and I need to ask anyone responding to my survey to also tell me the model year of your coach in addition to whether you can or cannot turn the ACC/CMS off (and keep the old fashioned cruise control still working).

2018 Cornerstone 45B.
I can disable ACC/CMS and still have traditional cruise control using this procedure supplied by J.H. ("Rollin101"):

Yes Gary I can and have turned off the ACC and still have regular cruise control. I still get a beeping if I get close to and overtaking another vehicle, but no ACC.
I love the ACC on our 2020 Ram, but in my opinion the ACC on the Mh, even when set to short, follows too far back and isn’t responsive enough when you do pull out to pass.
2020 Cornerstone
Sent you a pm Gary.
Yes turn it off with the joystick and have a message on the glass dash: ACC disabled

Gary, I don’t understand your frustration. I had a 2018 Cornerstone and the only reason I got rid of it is because I couldn’t turn off the ACC. The 2019 has the ability to turn off the ACC. The CMS still beeps but you can turn that off by being a little creative. So what is it you are looking for?

I fight the adaptive cruise on most drives. I have learned to try to look far ahead and decide to try and pass or turn cruise off and drive manual.
Overall - I don’t like it.

Please explain the steps that you have to go through to turn off the ACC on your 2019 coach.
Also, have you been able to do that since you took delivery of the coach? Finally, what month did you take delivery of the coach?
Just from your picture, you are seeing something different from what I see and it is different from what Spartan says you or I can see. Please describe the steps that you follow to defeat it.

I use the joystick to toggle to ACC, press, then toggle through short, medium, long to Disable and press. Unfortunately I do have to do it every time I start the coach since it doesn’t hold the previous setting, but no big deal. We took delivery June of 2018.

OK Gary, then yours works exactly the way mine works with one addition (but I'll bet you can do it the same). If I go to ACC and turn joystick counterclockwise, then I get to "ACC Disable" immediately. It is just a faster way to get there.
My coach did NOT have that capability when I first picked it up. I took delivery of my coach May 28th in Atlanta. That means that your and my coaches came off the line very close to the same position. Everyone says that the ability to turn the ACC on and off did not appear until 2020, not in 2019, and Spartan swears that there is no way to get that capability on a 2019. All the way up through the chain of command, they say it can't be done. But, now, you and I know that it can be, and I showed them that my coach can do that when I just left there last week. They are officially baffled. Hmmmmmmmm....!
Now, I'm pretty sure that my coach did not have that capability when I picked it up, and you may remember that I was exceedingly displeased with the way my coach handled with the ACC..... I was on the phone for hours with WABCO and Spartan. Much of that was because I had a couple of total system crashes with my ACC/Canbus/RADAR/ the-whole-thing, almost resulting in a tow through Washington DC. I was hopping mad! It was a real mess! The ECM and Cummins and Tranny were so confused by the cascade of errors that virtually nothing would work correctly. I spent a lot of time in shops and a lot of people worked on my coach, and then the ability to turn it off magically appeared at some point, but I'm not sure when or how. I was told by some company rep (WABCO - SPARTAN) that I would get that ability and that it would toggle on or off, and if toggled off, it would stay off until I turned it back on. But my coach does not do that (just like yours), and that was what I was trying to get Spartan to figure out last week.... the toggling part, but when I started pushing on that, I got blank stares and told that it could not be done .......... there was no way that it could be done on a '19, but there it was and so we encounter the head scratcher for everyone involved.
Here is my guess.... The ability to turn it off (program by WABCO) was there right from the start on 2019s. The ability to do this was in the software from WABCO, but Wabco asked how Spartan and Entegra wanted the system to operate and someone was worried that owners would turn it off and said, "Deliver it so it can't be turned off"
, and so 2019 coaches came down the line with it turned off and the official position of the companies involved was that it could not be done.
This new capability (CMS/ACC/ RADAR) was met by a lot of unhappiness by owners like you and me and I personally had some difficult conversations with WABCO and Spartan and Entegra..... I resented them putting something on my half million dollar coach that made driving it a pain in the ass, that I never authorized, and I wanted it removed completely. I know they heard this from a lot of owners. And at some point, someone at Spartan or Entegra decided that it was so unpopular that they needed to give the owner the choice, and Presto - CHANGE-O. it became turn "OFF-able" and someone changed my coach. It then became a standard option on 2020s and later. The whole thing is really interesting, but now in very late 2020, it is all unknowable by all involved. Everyone denies everything....

Gary, the off switch was there for the very first 2019. I literally sold a 2018 and bought an identical 2019 based on that one button. I had many conversations with Entegra prior to me ordering, about the off switch and then saw it on one of the early 2019 coaches. Not sure what Spartan and Wabco knows, but Entegra knows it was there from the get go.

Thats even more interesting....... If you are right, then the only explanation is that I just didn't have the good sense to turn past long, middle, and short to see if there was something else, but I'd bet a whole lot of money that I would have done that because I was so damn unhappy with my brand new coach and it was something that I so badly wanted to make go away, but I guess it is possible.
What is interesting is that I now realize that you were even more unhappy than I was.... I was willing to pay a whole lot of money to find someone who would take that system completely off my coach, and you were willing to buy another identical coach one year later to get rid of it...... -- -- -- -- I'm impressed! Now, THAT is hate....
