Swapping Samsung Micro/convection for GE Advantium

I know there is a current thread on this but I need something specific. We are wanting to make the swap, DW hates the Samsung. The questions is: Are there any structural changes that need to be made? I'm having an RV service center do the work, I just want to know what to expect. I know that the GE has a mounting plate, does it fit without addition mounting structure? Or less? I already know the vent won'tline up because it doesn't on the Samsung.

Swapping Samsung Micro/convection for GE Advantium

Like many others we got our fill of the Samsung microwave and replaced it with the GE. Other than a slight adjustment to align the exhaust vent it slips right in without a hitch. It is set up for easy install. I had finally found a handyman that would put it in for us, a real resistance by people to work on motor homes, equate it to trailers. Was going to cost me $99. We went to Motor Home Specialists for some other rush work and our tech put it in for us in about ten minutes. It is something I could have done if I had my youthful strength to lift that sucker up and put it in place.

Put the Advantium in no problem! Noel

I changed it out on my coach. The only modification that had to be made was to reposition the metal support bar that is above the microwave. 6 screws. Actually pretty easy. Toughest part is routing the power cord.

Do you absolutely need the speed cooking of the Advantium? If not, take a look at some other options.

We replaced a Sharp convection/micro with a GE Advantium and, because of my cooking style, I am very disappointed in it compared to the Sharp.

Our Advantium can't achieve temperatures higher than about 385F (even though the display will claim up to 450F). I've tried faking it out by resetting and re-preheating, but no luck. I bake a lot of artisan breads and pizza (and have tried using a baking stone and a baking steel, as well as trying hour-long preheats) and wish we had just done another Sharp (which never had a temperature issue) rather than the Advantium. (we only changed because we wanted a stainless-faced oven, rather than the black. Our 10+ year old Sharp was working fine)

Must be something wrong, ours has no problem getting to temp. On the other hand maybe ours is working too well. This info is from DW, for me other than using microwave to heat something I'm above my pay grade. Noel

I don't want to detract from the point of the thread, but I can't help but asking what the problem is with the Samsung? We have an anthem on order and we do like to cook, so this is something I would be interested in hearing about.

My first one would not cook on confection. When preheated to 375 it was only 268 inside. Samsung told me that I would have to chase the temperature to "try" to cook something. Say what!? That model was discontinued Entegra did replace it with the new model. The second one is better, but it is not the Sharp Carousal we had in the previous MH.

If you use the confection oven a lot, there are better units than the Samsung, it seems the heat is just not constant. The microwave side is fine. They might have newer and better units in the 2016.

Ok thanks. Yeah that would not work for us. We do like to cook and use the convection mode a lot. 🍟🍔🌭🍕. Man do I already have a long list of mods and haven't even taken delivery yet. 🤑🤑

Try the one in the 2016 first before you decide to change it. The newer units might be a lot better.

HA! you should have seen my first year of mods, it was a full time job

I have had nothing but problems with my Samsung. It doesn't come up to temperature most times, and when it does, if I turn off the oven and then try to heat it back up again, it never heats up. I'm on my second oven (Entegra replaced the first one) and I'm still having the same issues. I get an E23 error a lot. I HATE never knowing if the samsung is going to work when I need it. I had an Advantium in my sticks and bricks and never had a problem. I also HATE the silly round racks that come with the oven. They are always in the way and have to be stored somewhere any time I want to use the microwave. I would much rather have one with racks like a normal oven.

We have a sharp in our phaeton and no complaints. Works good, lasts a long time.

Anyone with a 16 year model care to provide input on this evolving drama with the Samsung oven? Same issues as the OP? 🤔
