We purchased from RVOne in Orlando and live in Texas. They know how to handle the out of state purchases.

We are TX residents, and purchased a new, previously untitled Anthem from OrlandoRV in October. As someone else mentioned, 6% was paid to FL at the time of purchase, and then .25% when we registered in TX. My surprise came when I tried to register in TX, I was told I had to get a state safety inspection before they would title the RV. I reminded them this was a new vehicle and inspections hadn't been required before. After double checking with a supervisor, they insisted on the inspection since the vehicle was purchased out of state. They told me that TX law changed in October when TX went to a one sticker system for both registration and inspection. So I had to leave, get the inspection and return with inspection paperwork. Then they issued the registration.

My previous RV was bought out of state and registered in TX by mail a couple of years ago. But the new law re the one sticker system and safety inspections might cause problems for you, I'm not sure. I suggest you call the county where you will register the vehicle and ask them how you can proceed.

We recently purchased at Lazydays ( 2nd time ) , are full time and domiciled in South Dakota. We did NOT pay any Florida tax, received Florida Temporary Tag ( good for 30 days -- you can get another 30 but must be a break between ) and LAZYDAYS forwarded all paperwork to our mail address agent in S. D. to get our plates transferred. We were responsible to send our 1 time excise tax check and we chose our own insurance agent ( Overland in Quartsite, Az ) so we handled all of that. Lazydays does offer insurance services etc. You must prove insurance coverage to the dealer to get the Temp. Tag.

In our previous ( 6 yrs ago ) purchase we were not full time and residents of Mass and because of tax reciprocity agreements we had to pay 6% sales tax in Fl. and then .25% to Mass and under Mass laws only had 10 days to register and get state inspected and insurance also had certain requirements that made it complicated. One of many reasons in retirement we no longer live in Mass !

Good Luck and enjoy when you purchase.

To clarify, you do have to have the coach inspected IN Texas. You must take it to an inspection location licensed by the state of Texas. Once you do that they will issue you a receipt and also enter your vin in the computer. Now, if you plan to register the coach yourself, when you go to the county-tax assessor office you will also need a weight receipt like from a certified scale at a truck stop and proof of insurance. In addition, they will ask for photos of the coach, inside and out. Once you are in Texas, you have 30 days to get this done. Don't ask me how I know all this for a fact.

If you register first in another state, you will receive credit for the sale tax paid in that state. More importantly, if you are trading a used coach on the new one it will save you thousands if you enter the trade in Texas because Texas charges you sales tax on the difference between new and old. So if you register the coach in another state you can no longer claim that you traded a new coach for an old one. So you will pay tax on the full value of the new coach. My suggestion would be to get temporary tags also know as paper tags from the dealer in whatever state you buy and drive the coach to Texas. These tags are usually good for 30 to 60 days. Have the dealer make you a copy of the title to your old coach and take all documents to a dealer in Texas that is willing to do the "book" trade for you. You can do all this yourself but they may question your trade. The Entegra dealer should be able to give you an MSO to take to Texas. So with the old title and new MSO Texas will charge you on the difference in values, make sure you have something from dealer showing how much you got for the trade in and how much you pay for new one such as purchase order.

I know its a long post but I just went through it with my 2015 CS bought from a private individual. I sold my old Anthem to Beaver Coach and was still able to show it as a trade in Texas. Saved me about $9000. The hardest part was finding an inspection station in El Paso willing to do a motorcoach. The inspector found out my turn signals weren't working which should have flunked me but I pleaded my case about how hard it was to get that coach in and out of storage and into his tiny garage, etc. so he passed me. I got lights fixed and then some-see the threads on side markers. Any questions please PM.

One more thing, I am assuming that you plan to pay for your new coach with a trade plus cash. That way the selling dealer will give you an MSO but won't make a title application for you in Texas. If the dealer is willing to do a title application in Texas, then you could still show the trade for taxation purpose and I believe you can wait to have coach inspected when you get to Texas, then you go to county tax assessor and show documents and they will give you your registration sticker and forward title to lien holder. So make sure the dealer is willing to make title application in Texas and make sure they figure out taxes correctly, that could safe you a lot of hassle. Or just buy your new coach from Angie in Texas and you'll be home free...isn't that right Gene????

This may vary by purchasing and home state, but we live in MN and purchased our coach while on vacation in CA. We did not pay any CA sales tax but had to take delivery out of state. A driver took us and the coach to the AZ border where we signed paperwork and took possession. We were given a temporary registration document, and when we arrived home we went to the local DMV to register it and pay the sales tax (ouch!). Your dealer should know exactly what needs to be done in your circumstance.

It sounds like TX has the best fuel prices in the nation, but when it comes to registration they sound like they are right up there with CA.

Out of state buyer

I've bought 3 now in Florida and registered in TX. Now, things have recently changed, but what I'd do is call the county tax office, ask for the Dealer registration section. When your paperwork comes in from the dealer, it will be held in that office until you come in. Call them and explain your situation. In the past they work up the bill, I send them a check, they send me the plates. When I enter the state with the coach, I have 3 days to get it inspected. If in Dallas area, go to National Indoor Storage in Lewisville, or any other motorized RV dealer. If you go to a truck place they may think you need a DOT inspection, you don't, you just need a simple safety inspection, check the lights. The tax office has been easy to work with in the past. Just a few months ago, with my last coach, I came in with the paperwork and did it all, but the coach still hasn't hit the state yet.

"If in Dallas area, go to National Indoor Storage in Lewisville"

That is National Indoor RV Center, when you go to the phone book or google it.
