Thank you

With tomorrow being Memorial Day, I felt the need to say Thank You to all the Veterans in the Entegra family that have served our great country in any of our Armed Forces. Because of you we can enjoy our Freedom and roam the country in the way we do. So Thank you Thank you Thank you and pray for our Soldiers that are still giving us that privilege.

Used to be called Decoration Day after the civil war. To remember the Dead soldiers. Today, it's for all dead vets. Not to be confused with Veterans Day (which was originally Armistice Day). 11 am 11th day of the 11th month to remember the Veterans of the war to end all wars, WWI. The Great War. The war to end all wars. Never again....., at least until the Third Reich, Korea, Vietnam, The Middle East..... China?

I was over at the RV lot today, trying to do some work on it, and ended up spending a nice hour talking with a gent out for a walk. He had on a WWI Navy Veteran cap. He is 90 years old and still spry. Has no pains, can get around fine, but has occasional vertigo and so lost his license. His "young" mid-eighties wife has to drive him around now. Heck, I've see 65 year olds with less mobility. He was coxswain on an LST at the invasion of Okinawa. He asked if I knew what an LST was; I said yes - Landing Ship Tank (a large landing craft that carried tanks). He said that what it meant in real life was Large Stationary Target. No PTSD for him - he was 17 when he went into the Navy, and considers it an adventure. He only knows about 4-5 other vets from then that still live. Damn, I hope to be as together when I hit 90.

My Dad served on an LST during WWII in the Pacific as well. I thank him, and all who gave so much for us.

Obviously, that's a WWII cap, of course, not a WWI. Mistyped.

Yep, my Dad too. Normandy, the Bulge, St. Lo to Berlin, 3rd Armored Division. My Father in law served under Halsey, on a destroyer in the Pacific.
All gave some some gave all, but they all wrote Uncle Sam a check up to and including their life.
Americas greatest generation is fast disappearing, I just pray our best days are still ahead. Maybe I'm getting old and cynical, but I don't think our past leaders focused much on gender bathrooms, something like Nero fiddling while Rome burned.
God bless all our vets, past and present. Noel

Noel you are right. Our greatest generation indeed. My Uncle served under MacArthur in the Philippines. I too try to have faith in our days ahead, but in all realism, I doubt we will ever have a generation that equals all that generation encompassed. They were truly exceptional, just like the U.S.A. Not to put anyone down, heck that would include myself, but I really believe that generation is our bench mark.

To all U.S. armed forces personnel from every era who didn't make it home......"thank you". It seems like it's not enough to say considering the gravity of it all. But it's all I can say. You have great honor, and my great respect.

The last couple sentences above are for all other veterans of all eras as well......(to be repeated on Veterans Day). All of you are the reason I have tears going down my face without fail when I hear our national anthem.

Best regards,
W.D.

I have 9 known family members including myself that served our country from WW1 through Viet Nam. I am the only one living and most of them were Honored with Military Funerals in Arlington National Cemetery or local VA Cemeteries and most of us also are on the appropriate War Memorials in our respective towns.

Many years ago when our town finally decided to honor the Viet Nam veterans the Memorial was placed about a mile away from the central downtown location of all the other War Memorials. In some respects it was just not right but was better then no recognition.

Upon returning to our " old hometown " thursday to be with our family we discovered that the Viet Nam Memorial was recently moved to the central downtown location with the Memorials of all our Wars and Conflicts.

I only wish my brothers were still here to see all 3 of us finally equally honored with all other veterans.

Thank You to all who have served and continue to serve and to their loved ones that make daily sacrifices for us to live in this great country!
