The "Switch" is In

Like some folks here, I use the Tag Dump Switch while maneuvering around a campground. I use to hold the switch down and try to turn the wheel at the same time, didn't work well for me. I also put a wedge under the switch to hold the switch in dump mode position, this also didn't work well for me.

So, I've gone a head and swapped the on-off-(on) momentary switch out with an on-off-on toggle switch for the Tag Dump switch. I also took this one step further.

Since I didn't want to travel with the Tag Dump always in "Dump Mode" I installed a couple of indicator LED's. When the switch is in the "Tag Dump Auto Mode" the Green LED is on. While in the "Tag Dump Hold Mode" the Red LED is on. And while the switch is in the "OFF Mode" both LED's are off.

The indicators were added so that both myself and the bride know the state of the Tag Axle while maneuvering in and out of the campground.

This modification has worked extremely well for us over the last several months. And since we visit over 40 campgrounds over a year, this modification has made maneuvering campgrounds a breeze!

Thanks Matt!

I like to do modifications that are simple and make my life easy, example - compressor modification. If my shoulder holds up the next couple of mods will be even nicer....

Also, trying to find the info. about the switch for others. Since I did this mod. about three months or so ago I need to find the info.. Wanted to make sure everything worked properly before I posted.

I've found the physical size of these carling rocker switches varies from year to year and even model to model so check your dimensions carefully! MHS (Motor Home Specialist) had the best price on this type of switch ... rumour has it that Entegra gets replacement switches from them and then jacks up the price to the public. YMMV..
Here's one for a 2016 Anthem and maybe others as well.Click image for larger version

Paul & John,

Very nice mod... use of the switch has given me pause on occasion, having a red and green light would make it foolproof to determine when it is on and off.
Would you have any pictures of the wiring underneath the panel?

John,
Thanx for the part information!

Just pull the panel. It’s eight screws and lifts up with plenty of wire to move the whole assembly towards the drivers seat.

The switch part number is a Carling Technology VJD2-UCCB. I’ve enclosed the spec. sheet. Cost was about 20.00$. It’s a direct plug and play DPDT switch. No changing around wires.

I purchased two LEDs, red and green, with the current limiter already attached for about 4.00$ each. Any LED will work, just don’t forget the resistor.

Keep in mind that you may need to purchase some crimps to add in the LEDs. I ended up using the unused connections on the switch to allow the LEDs to work.

Thanks But....

The Carling part number is very helpful but what about the labeling on the rocker? Is our current rocker transplantable on the new switch or is there a source for a properly labeled replacement? Thanks again

The current actuator (cover) moves over to the new switch body.

Rick,
The switch covers are generally switch able but if you are in doubt or just want a new or custom cover you might try the web site www.rockerswitchpros.com as suggested by Flanz in the post above.
They sell custom etched covers at a fabulous price.
