There is a flip side to Walmart as well. I owned an 8 store center less than a mile from Walmart. We stayed full for 20 years because of the traffic going to Walmart. A lot of business thrive because of Walmart and the traffic they generate. I can see Buc-ees doing the same thing with car washes, auto parts stores, quick lube and oil change and other business that would benefit from the traffic they generate.

I'd be interested to know all the details. We had a corporation come into our area and under-sale most of the stations in the area putting 5 long time stations out of business. It turns out that this corporation had made a side deal with suppliers that weren't available to the locals and they ended up getting in a little trouble with fines and stuff but that didn't bring the competition back, they were gone. Don't know if that's what they had there or not.

I live in this area. The law suit was brought by a truck stop and restaurant at Wilcox Road and I10. This station has been the only place to stop, for ever, between Pensacola, Florida and Mobile, Alabama. At the time this suit was filed, other stations about the same distance south of I10, from the Wilcox Rd location were selling 87 octane for $1.97 and $1.99. The station complaining, has always been high since they had a monopoly on that strip of I10. They were selling gas that day for $2.12. We love Buc-ee's

Amen! It seems like, whether State, Federal, or otherwise, the main reason Government exists these days is to investigate and sue the Government.

It sickens me.

I was just in that area. One walking trip through Oasis and into the bathroom and then a repeat at the new Buc-ee's will send people running to Buc-ee's even if the price is MORE for gas.

We love our Buc-ee's. Clean restroom, snacks and reasonable gas prices. Plus they have many pumps-no waiting. When you go to the counter inside and they are busy someone will jump in and check you out.
Check out the one in Fort Worth near Texas speedway---it's awesome. ONLY IN TEXAS !!!

Ditto West Marine having driven every other marine store chain out of business then jacking the prices through the roof. Walmart "neighborhood markets" that open, drive the other markets out of business, then close up sending you to one of the larger Walmart stores. Their business practices were perfected by the Mafia (ok, IF there is a Mafia). Got Rubbermaid hooked on selling to Walmart, which wouldn't let them raise prices to account for increased labor and materials costs, drove them bankrupt then bought their equipment at auction and sent it to China. Why is there a lawsuit? It seems more like Oasis is ripping people off, than Buckees is priced too low.

That reminds me of US 1 coming out of the Florida Keys. For years the first gas station you hit coming out of the keys was priced $1.00 more than the 1/2 dozen +/- gas stations within 3/4 of a mile or so around it. One was right next to it. I always wondered why anyone would stop there, but people did. In the last year or so it has changed its price to the same as the surrounding stations.

LOL!
I had the same experience with the closest gas station to the Hertz lot at Orlando Airport. No price sign on Highway, pulled in looked at prices on pump $1 higher than anywhere around. pulled to the next station.

yes, it was busy, because people don't pay attention.

You have to notice that around Madisonville, TX not much has survived after Buc-ees showed up. But it is more than has prices. Consider my wifes number one reason : clean bathrooms. Not many do that as well as Buc-ees! Then consider their cinnamon rolls. I know a preacher who can not pass them up!
Their business plan is more than gasoline. It has to be a stop worth taking in the long highway miles, cause it certainly delays the travel everytime I'm told we are stopping there!

Texas tries to share some of it's state treasures with others and this is how they react. Bama and their football team can go to Hell!

This thread is about Buckey's in Alabama being sued by a competitor. While some of the replies have veered pretty far off the subject, they remained within the confines of our community rules. However, the last few pages have turned toward the political and we have had to edit or remove some posts. You can still discuss the subject, just refrain from making statements about current political issues, parties, or politicians. It'll save us a lot of work and keep the thread open.

Thanks,

Not sure if this is good info ?

I live just east of Birmingham and all the gas prices around here are below $2.00 for regular unleaded ?
