A bit of tire trivia. FWIW, I know someone who works for a good size tire retailer in the West that also has 3 tire recapping facilities for the larger truck tires. He travels around to the retailers and selects used tires for recapping. He has told me they will not recap a tire that has a date code older than five years regardless of their looks. It could have never been used and they still can't touch it. I don't know if it's DOT law or just their company policy. That's the extent of my knowledge of recaps.

That doesn't mean I'll scrap tires at 5 year's. I have at 7 yrs. but am not sure it was necessary as Michelin was clamming their tires were good to 10 yrs when properly maintained? DW suggested we do it.

Also, Like Gary Jones posted, I'm a big believer in the 303 UV protectant for tires and Marine/Rv use on rubber, plastic, etc. It's also great for things where you use products like Mothers Back to Black. Other than soap and water, 303 is the only thing I will put on my RV tires. I quit using covers.

Hmmmm.....aluminum bars, 3M double stick tape, sunblock fabric from HDepot, PVC pipe split- 1/2", dowel rod, magnets (HD 1" x 2" ceramic block magnets), JB Weld 2-part Epoxy, pop rivets.....

There's a flat boss behind your wheel wells that you can glue to magnets to. The actual mounting depends on using magnetic polarity to stick north and south poles together....doubling the strength of the magnets. If I hah known about the rare earth magnets before I made them, I would have used them instead.......Google rare earth magnets.....look around KJ Magnetics site......

I'll try to take a pic or two, but if you think about the info here, you might be able to deduce my methodology.

I like the look of the coach with my tire covers.....but I had several years to arrive at this point regarding taste.

In truth, most tires will age out way before we wear them out....so it may just be a case of esthetics......really!

Btw....if you're considering running on tires more than 7 years old....you're gambling on really bad odds.
