Toad setup tips

Taking my Wrangler in for toad setup next week and wondering if there is anything I don’t want to overlook. Getting AF1 and BlueOx. Taking to a very good installer, I hear.

Somewhere I read Entegra pre wires coaches with a wire to cockpit for a brake light up front to assist in monitoring brakes in toad. True?

Thanks,
Bill

My toad is an F-350. The AF1 installer put a red LED in the dash of the truck to see when brakes activate on the AF1.

My only complaint is that when using the engine brake, the toad lights don’t illuminate.

Actually, Entegra wires them for a brake controller. You can use the blue wire from the Entegra wiring to run a light from the toad to the cockpit.

How do you see the light in truck dash?

I can see the LED light shine from the rear camera view on the Xite.

Maybe from eTrailer or another vendor, you can get an LED light to mount in your dash. My Ready Brute tow bar included one that was tapped into the blue electric brake wire.
I know when my brake light come on when it lights up.
Good piece of mind.

We have a stay and play duo hooked up in our toad.

The installer did run the led to the dash of our coach when he did the install. Much nicer than having to look in the camera to see if the brakes on the toad are on.

Just ran into a problem with my Blue Ox base plate. It has come loose twice, even with lock tite, the bolt supplied were too short. I just replaced all of the bolts with longer hardened bolt. If the threads are not at least a 1/2 inch past the nuts, replace them now. JME Blue OX was real good on my kit, of cutting a dollar on the bolts

My installer says they put that light in coach cockpit. That is why I was curious about pre-wire

I have a small light in the dash that comes on when brakes are applied in the toad.

The wire you are looking for like Rollin101 said is the blue 10 gauge wire that is used for a brake controller. It is indemnify as SP 709B by Spartan and is located behind the dash on left side. This wire/circuit goes to the 7 pin RV plug at rear of coach.

So your installer can pick it up there.

My dealer thought 4 out of 8 bolts per side for our blue ox were enough for our Grand Cherokee. Plus safety clevis was never closed. Had to have a local collision shop straighten it all out. I did get apology though. I feel much better. This was a multi state dealer with stores in NY that professed that they have a great install crew and do many installs.
