I just ordered the same unit for replacement. Figured the same thing would be easier since the wires are pretty short as is and it may be an easier swap.
Progressive Dynamics, Inc. Model PD52
If this one lasts a year that would be fine, should be trading it off before then. Fingers crossed.

You might want to ask them if the relays are solid state in the replacement unit. Some are using cheap mechanical relays in units that are made in Mexico which emit a VERY LOUD buzz. (Don't ask me how I know!)
Good troubleshooting by the way!

Bob, you bought the same unit didn't you? That is the one I have bookmarked. If it has passed your test, I know it's a good one. Mine is starting to chatter from time to time, so I don't trust it.

I screwed mine into the wall right beside the transfer switch.

To bring closure to this thread, I received the new switch this morning and installed it. All is once again right with the world.
Pretty straight forward install since I replaced it with the same model so no issues with mounting or wires too short. A bit cramped working in the compartment but I got it done with minimal cussing and no busted knuckles. LOL
